    Re: nvidia 8800gts

im thinking about getting the folowing barebones bundle
    http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/s....html?BB-Q660N
but ive got a few questions.
    1. will the 430watt psu included with it be able to cope with a nvidia 8800gts?
    2. if the answer to question 1 is no then what is the cheapest name power supplu to be able to support an nvidia 8800gts?
even if i dont get an nvidia 8800gts card with the computer i still might want to upgrade to one later.
hence the reason asking about power supplys.

    Re: nvidia 8800gts

Without knowing what the PSU is it's hard to say.

I'd personally use a mid 400's low 500's watt PSU just to leave room for the future.

Corsair 520w HX is good, or the 450w VX model would do.

I personally wouln't bother with the barebones and would build my own from scratch..that way you know exactly what you are getting.

    Re: nvidia 8800gts

Your best bet is to contact Novatech and ask what exactly the PSU is.
However the only 430w PSU novatech directly sell is a ThermalTake TR2 which is ok but far from great and I'd have doubts over it being able to handle a 8800gts

Good news, that is one of the cheapest 8800gts I've seen and they give a lifetime warranty as well.
I've had to RMA a "novatech" branded card to them once before and they were very good and fast over the whole thing. (granted it was a 6800LE that died within 2 hours of plugging it in because of a bad memory chip, not a problem 3 years down the line.)

I'd deffinately contact them if your happy to use them and do not want to put your own pc together, they are also willing/open to changeing bits. (unless they've changed policy or I;m thinking of someone else)

(I'm actually still a bit sad as novatech used to just set the bundels and had a small additional charge for putting it together for you )

    hello Pob255,
I was hoping novatech would do a service where you select the bits and for a small charge they put it together for me.
but the barebones bundle was the closest i found.
im more than happy for them to put the computer together for me.
i have taken apart computers before but havent bulti a computer before.
the main problem i always found was working out where the front panel connectors go to.
its fine when you take apart the computer because you put them back from where they were.
same sort of thing with usb headers.
do you think i will be able to get novatech to fit a diffeent psu?
they replyed quickly to my first few questions.

    Re: nvidia 8800gts

As I said I seem to remember that novatech will change bits if you ask them to, there is no option for it you have to ask.

That said putting a pc together it's that hard, the front pannel connectors are listed in the motherboard's manual (and if you look closely it's printed on the mother board as well, pwr = power & spk = speaker)
With the novatech bundel you're just paying that bit extra for peace of mind.

Novatech branded cards have actually been Leadtech or xpert vision in the past (I was very plesently supprised a couple of years ago when my novatech 6800LE turned out to be a Leadtech 6800LE )

Generally speaking Novatech are not the cheapest around however from my past experience they've good customer service (granted my experience was from a couple of years back and things might of changed)

EDIT: I don't think they are used so much by people here as we all seem to be a big bunch of penny pinching self builders so go for the cheaper prices of scan, ebuyer and such.
