8800GTX or 360 Elite?

Okay, I've got a few pennies to spend, and I'd like to play some of the latest games with all the eye candy set to max.

Should I buy a shiny new 360 Elite with BioShock and Colin Mcrae DIRT, or should I get a 8800GTX and the same games...?

btw, the games are not the point of the question, I don't care whether you like them or not this is a question of hardware

Think of it this way...

Would you use the 360 for xbox live and play online with it ?
If yes - I vote for the 360.
If No - get the 8800GTX and play on the PC instead.

As I've stated in a few posts now, I've neglected my PC and now have more fun playing on XBL on various games and betatests.

never played online with xbox 360, but i can imagine racing games being fun online, so i agree with what LEE said.

Having played Bioshock on both a 360 and an 8800GTX, I would side with the gfx card every time.

But for me the 360 controller and FPSs do not mix.

As for driving games, I only play those on consoles......

So, basically, I haven't been much help

I don't get this Xbox 360 and FPS not mixing. Having been a PC gamer for years, going from the original Rainbow 6, I actually think FPS play better on the Xbox. Sure you don't get freedom of movement like an FPS on the PC, but the gameplay is often different and tactically more challenging. Personnally, I think if you like strategy games (Starcraft, C&C, Civ) your PC is the best bet. Otherwise the xbox is the way to go, plus the diversity of games is top notch on the xbox.

The problem is that when you are used to keyboard and mouse for FPSs, a console controller is ridiculously hard to get to grips with.

No other reason, just the control method stinks

FPS is definatly better on pc. There is no question about that no matter wot people think. Best thing anyone has done for consoles as regards to FPS is bring a keyboard and mouse out for the PS3 version of UNREAL 3. Why did they bring it out? cause its better

Doesn't Crysis require a multicore cpu which the OP doesn't have atm?

I know they didn't mention Crysis, but it is still relevant if they'll need to upgrade much else for many current games.

8800 GTX + XBOX360 Controller then you can play FPS with the keyboard and racing/other with the controller, just like if you actually had an XBOX360 . Unless of course there's exclusive xbox only games you want to play, in which case get the XBOX360.

I've got an XBOX360 + 8800GTX and when a game comes out on both I normally always get it on PC - side by side the graphical differences is quite often massive if you crank it to high/max. (If that matters to you)

I tend to agree with you, but the point is I play racing, fps and rts. At the moment I have a 37" TV connected to the PC for driving games, and a sidewinder pad for that. But for FPS and rts using the keyboard and mouse sit in front of the monitor...

That's what I wanted to hear, that the 8800GTX actually does make things look better than the consoles. I'm building a new PC in the next couple of months, and wasn't sure whether or not to stick with the 7800GTX, and use the money saved to get a 360...

Hopefully I'll get both in the long run
