Ok guys I know that XP without SP1 won't recognise this capacity to it's full. Can someone explain how to show the full Gbs after installing SP1?

subtract 7.3741824% of the size stated by the manufacturer to get the true size, as reported by windows (i.e. 148.20130816Gb)
The reason for this is hard disk manufacturers take 1Kb to be 1000bytes, whereas operating systems use 1024bytes. A real Gb is 7.3741824% less than a hard disk manufacturer's Gb
anything less than this suggests your motherboard lacks 48bit LBA, meaning it fails to address over 128Gb properly, in which case look for a bios update
windows xp itself uses NTFS or FAT32. NTFS supports up to 16 Exabytes per partition, FAT32 supports 2 Terabytes - with enormous wasteage though
Oh, I thought it was an issue with XP itself lacking 48bit LBA without SP1
afaik you do need sp1 to enable 48bit LBA - maybe a bios update as well, depending on mobo, but I had to install sp1 before it recognised my hdds full capacity (160Gb - formatted = 149.05GB)Quote:

And it said my os did not have support for 48bit LBA, but it would alter something in the registry if i said yes.
Said yes all sorted :), only problem is i had to take the other nearly 20gb and format that as a separate partition :(
