    PC not waking from 'sleep'

    hello,

I'm using Vista 32 bit, and whenever I use the sleep option, it switches off the VGA signal, but the peripherals remain on, the fans, lights, etc all remain on too. And when I come to 'wake' it, I've tried using keyboard/mouse and the power button, but nothing happens. So, I am forced to reset.

    What could be wrong?

Probably a buggy ACPI DSDT. Try updating your BIOS to the latest version.

It's because you've not listed your system specs anywhere

Re: PC not waking from 'sleep'

The one time I tried it I had the same issue with Vista 64bit, didn't "wake up" with mouse or keyboard and the soft reset button didn't even work, I had to turn it off at the PSU... needless to say, I won't be using "sleep" again.

Press the power button on your computer (Front panel of your case) and Vista will resume.
Dont hold it down, just press it once

I learned this the hard way leaving my PC on all night and waking up in the morning to press the power button on my computer and viola right to Vista just the way I left it, didn't know how it did that but so far I have really enjoyed using the sleep feature.

Go ahead... try it... Enter Sleep mode in Vista.. your PC will power down just like a shutdown... after the computer completely powers down... wait a few seconds and press the power button on your computer and viola its back to Vista just the way you left it... I've never been able to return from sleep mode using a keyboard or mouse FYI

::IF you've deleted these files than Sleep mode will not work...

If you have than a fix can be found here.. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928897/

Thanks guys, I'll look into it now.

To be honest MS made a HUGE mistake with this crap, I was faaaaar happier with stand by and hibernate. Easier, simpler, more efficent.

    hello,

I've tried this, but it still doesn't work. My system just doesn't turn off.

Is there any way I can just enable hibernation? I've tried the whole 'power cfg h on' thing, that does nada.

Re: PC not waking from 'sleep'

I was reading up on the Asus froums and came across someone with a similar problem, apprently your mobo and vista might both have the reusme from sleep buttons/device set and the two might conflict.

Try checking in device manager and see what it says about you mouse and keyboard inputs. Either that or check your bios's power settings.

Re: PC not waking from 'sleep'

    hello,

    Tried everything no luck.

First time I tried, it shut down nicely. I was happy, until a few seconds later it powered back on and started screaming at me (very loud alarm). Then, it just turned itself off. However, when I switched it on, it booted, and the desktop was as it was.

Second time, it shut down. Again, happy, but decided to leave it for a few min. No screaming, no power-ups yet. Good. However, when I pressed the power button, it simply turned on for a few sec. Then, turned off. When I turned it on again, the result was the same as above.

    I'm gonna try again.

Re: PC not waking from 'sleep'

Ok, tried again. This time, did not even shut down. Just the mouse and DVI signal as before. So, I had to reset.

I'm going to call Scan if I can't sort it out, if they can't sort this out, then I'm just going to have to ask them to collect the system. This is a real nightmare!
