How far do you think I'll be able to take this e6600?

I don't know much about the C2D range of processors, and now gathering the parts, so far i've got is a P5NE-SLI motherboard, OCZ XTC PC6400 CL4 memory, and an e6600 with the stepping as follows ; sl9zl l712b102 I can't find much on this on the surface but I get the impression this one doesn't overclock well, the rest of the bits and bobs, including the psu are very high quality and there are many, many fans providing a constant airflow to each of the components, and I'm planning to use a Lapped Gigabyte G-power pro heatsink.

Why don't you try to overclock it... using Clunks guide above... and let us know?

Well, if you dont need SLI, grab yourself a P35 board, you'll be glad you did.

Impossible to say how well the CPU will overclock, but ones that are genuinely poor overclockers arent too commone really. Most of the time, it is user error, or badly selected parts.

Have a read of the guides, theres info on all kinds of stuff.

Doh I already bought the board, though I did maage to get it for £50 delivered, and it's based on the 650i chipset, I didn't know until after I bought this that, you can plug and play RAID as long as the board supports it, I though you had to have a RAID controller similar/same as the existing, I've checked out a couple of fourms and they've managed to take this board beyond 470mhz so thats OK I suppose, thanks for the advice mate, much appreciated.

Re: How far do you think I'll be able to take this e6600?

Thanks for the help guys, since my last post, I've now setup and installed the board, It's taken me well over a day to get the board up and running, and ASUS, are so silly they, require you to make the RAID floppy yourself, for the sake of 50p :O.

I've lapped the, C2D IHS, Northbridge Heatsink (attatched a 50mm fan too), G-power pro. I get very low temperatures, I'm on 3.6GHZ atm (1.4V) and I'm getting just 48 degress avg.

It's a very good overclocker the BIOS is very limited, and requires ALOT of messing around to get stable

    YAY!"

    Well, I think mine is a B2 stepping and it's at 3.2GHz.

I don't really need it higher as no game maxes out one core.

Furthest I've ever pushed it, wasn't 100% stable, but achieved 100% stable at 3.7

If you have it stable at 3.6 in such a short time..... then that is not a lot of messing arround.... it is very very quick! Congratulations!!!

lol I must have forgotten the part when I, lapped the cpu, volt modded for mobo (vdroop) volt modded the psu for ripple and 3.3V line.

I think 4ghz is too much for me, specially when I can only go as far as 1280X1024 on my POS TFT, the temperatures are really nice too, just a tad over 50 on full load.
I'm really scared to rush the system any further as I've no warranty for any of the parts :O
