Computer crashing
Hi
System:
xp1800 (pally)
KG7-RAID
20gb Seagate
256mb PC2700
GF4 (TT cooler)
1 case fan
300watt PSU (came with case 'Macron')
I recently put the TT cooler on the gf4. Since then the system has started crashing, in games, on the desktop doing nothing, and just now while booting up. This didnt happen before i put the TT cooler on that uses a molex from the PSU instead of the graphics card.
I was wondering if the PSU just cant handle the amount of the power that it needs ot provide? i looked at the power in the BIOS says the 3.3v = 3.47v, 5.5v = 4.85v, 12v = 12.06v.
Nothing else has been changed in the system (except the cooler.)
So, is this causing the crashing? i suspect it is, just want a second opinion :)

I would think that it's your power supply mate... Maybe it just can't cope with the extra power needed by another fan/cooler?

as u have just fiddled with the vid card
try reinserting it
check u have put the cooler on properly
do a visual check of the vid card for missing bits as it is easy to knock them off and not notice

i would say its more a problem with the GF4 card than the PSU. possibly overheating. as long as your voltage rails are stable and dont fluctuate too much and too heavily then i would have thought the PSU would be fine.
do what 'da ging' mentioned and see if that helps.

As others have mentioned, its highly unlikely to be a PSU problem as it wouldn't be that much more of a drain to push the PSU over the edge, have you checked to make sure that the fan actually spins ?
