    Raid questions

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could help me out here.
Im currently building a new system, mainly for image processing and graphics work, with the odd bit of 3d here and there, basically a high end graphics workstation. Ive currently got one 36 gig wd raptor and one 150 gig raptor x. Ive been thinking about getting another matching hd for a raid 0 configuration, but Im just wondering if its worth it or not. Given that Id probably have to get another raptor x, thats another 140 quid, so will the price justify the performance increase?
Heres an outline of the spec so far
    Dual opteron 2212
    Asus KFN5-D SLI mobo
    ATI Fire GL (hopefully 2)
few gigs of kingston ecc memory

    Cheers

    Re: Raid questions

Or for the £140, you can easily get two or more much larger hard drives

Performance before raid gains on the outer cylinders of the platters is already very good, matching raptor's overall performance, from what I have read. Simply use matrix raid, or partition a raid 0 array to give you a fast partition in the first part of the hard drive (the other edges of the platters).

Cost for cost, that would be the best way I feel to get a noticeable performance increase.

Moreso than the FireGL card, worthless waste of money. Swap that for an 8800GTS and you can get 6 Raptors for the same budget.

    Thanks for your input guys.
Ill have a look at some cheaper options before I decide what to do about a raid setup
As for the fie gl, I only paid 30 quid for it, so I reckon itll do for now, no point sepnding 200 quid on a new card for the time being.

Ah, I was under the impression that you were getting a new one. My bad. But yeah, 2 Raptors in RAID0 will make your eyes bulge.

Failing that, 2x500GB WD AAKS disks would also do the job.
