    First PC build

This is the spec that I have come up with, it is the first time that I am building a PC so I hope that I got this correct, I am wanting to build a PC that will last me a long time:

    Processor: Intel Core 2 Q6660
    Motherboard: Asus P5KC
    Memory: Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR3 1333MHz Memory CL9(9 9 9 24)

the rest I dunno about - will Update soon...

    any suggestions on the rest

    Re: First PC build

do you really want to go with DDR3 at this point?
It's a lot dearer for no real benefit currently.
& if you do why go with a combo board rather than a dedicated DDR3 like a P5K3 (I can understand going with a combo board & DDR2 now allowing a future upgrade to DDR3 when better/cheaper)?

& get a good PSU like a Corsair HX620 or so.

    Re: First PC build

I'm far from an expert but consider checking out the new X38 based boards and waiting until some reviews come out showing DDR3 fully supported if your considering going with DDR3, otherwise you could save a lot of money by sticking with DDR2 and probably not notice the difference performance wise with most of the P35 based boards.

Spending the extra cash to get DDR3 may not really show much return unless spending the extra cash for a X38 chipset board. I dont think the X38 boards have been really tested much yet, in theory they should be able to show some benefit for DDR3

The Corsair HX620W is a good idea for a PSU. The Antec P182 is a really nice case, and very quiet too.

A Corsair VX450 would be the better buy.

    Re: First PC build

Do not buy DDR3 unless you have money to burn!!! DDR2 is currently just as good, and is 1/4 the price...

    Re: First PC build

for £80 at SCAN (with free shipping once you hit 25 posts here) it seems good value.
I strongly suspect that you'll never use the DDR3 (only 2 slots iirc) facility but you never know.
