Smile Help me build my new pc !

    Hi all,

I am hoping to build a pc shortly and I'd love to get some experienced/expert advice on what components to get for my pc. I am basically looking for a decent system that will play some of the latest games.

So, I haven't done alot of research as yet but the first thing I was looking at was the graphics card and hopefully building a system around that.

    I am currently looking at:

    Motherboard:
    Asus P5K, P35, Socket-775, DDR2, ATX, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
    Processor
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz Socket LGA775, 8MB, BOXED w/fan
    Graphics Card
    EVGA GeForce 8800GTS KO ACS3 320MB GDDR3
    Memory
    OCZ Gold XTC DDR2 PC6400 4096MB KIT, w/two 2048MB PC6400 XTC, CL5-5-5-15
    Harddrive
    Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 500GB SATA2 16MB 7200RPM

Oh I will be getting Vista Home Premium too.

I am by no means an expert here so I would appreciate your advice, opinions and suggestions.

    Thanks in advance

Re: Help me build my new pc !

I forgot to mention that I will probably use the following from my current setup:

    Logitec Cordless Deskop MX700
    Altec Lansing speakers
    PSU (550watt)
    Dell 19" CRT monitor

Although I could be open to to suggestions here too

My budget is about €1000 euro but it could be stretched slightly. The case is Q-Tec Midi tower ATX TL-MD. I can't remember the name of the PSU, I think its a Truepower 550watt. I doubt I will be overclocking as I am a novice .

Cool Pyramus, well the 1st thing i'd recommend is a good PSU, Maybe the Corsair HX520 or an Enermax model - very important for a stable, reliable system. You'll need a case - personal preference allways but you wont go far wrong with an Antec 182, a Lian Li or Silverstone are all excellent makes. Personally i'd go for a flat screen monitor (reasonable prices now too) to get the most out of your graphics card (there are some good deals on 20.1 and 22" widescreens at the moment) and games. The rest of your spec i would be happy with personally but others may have suggestions ? Hope this helps !

Thanks Colossous, I was avoiding flat screens as I always assumed they weren't great for games etc? Have they improved in recent years? They would certainly save space. My current Dell 19" crt takes up half my room!

They're a lot better than they used to be for sure, its a matter of personal preference at the end of the day and theres still people who use crt's for graphics and photo app's that i know, do you know people who use tft's that you could check out theres maybe ? Good luck with the build duder !

Re: Help me build my new pc !

I not sure its worth getting the pre overclocked EVGA card, my club3D oem 8800GTS overclocked very well, but its up to you if you dont mind paying the premium, but for the amount you saving could easily get you another 500gig hard-drive .
As for PSU and case Colossous made exactly the same suggestions as i would have made.
Monitor - I'm a CRT man myself, although i have a dell 20inch wide screen that rarely gets used, if you can pick up a Iiyama vision master pro 454, it does some crazy refresh rates, i have 2 running 1600x1200@100hz
All the other choices seem fine to me .

Good luck should be a beast!.

Re: Help me build my new pc !

Yep that's the beasty good move if you don't know what your exact PSU is. (q-tec case has me worried and if it came with it, get that corsair asap)

On the cost of the oc graphics card, as you've not said how much you're getting it for, being told to get a normal one and overclock it your self is a bit pointless, esp as you've already said you don't want to self overclock.

If you're not going to overclock you should be able to save a bit on some slower memory, you will not notice much differnce. PC2-5400 would be fine and still alow for a reasonable overclock if you want to try it in the future.
