    Abit IP35-E, RAM and Q6600

    Hi,

I’m looking to get a Q6600 CPU with an Abit Ip35-E motherboard. (Sound like an okay choice?) I’m confused about what RAM to buy for it

Are there any ddr2-800 RAM that are guaranteed to work with the board that has timings around 4-4-4-12? Preferably some that will work right out of the box without tweaking/adjusting voltages etc. I noticed that all the RAM on the IP35-E’s recommended memory list have timings of 5-5-5-15 or higher, and I also read that the board has problems with RAM with a higher voltage than 1.8, so that might be hard to find?

    Thanks for reading.

    no, it doesn't.
It tends to set the JEDEC spec. 1,8V but you just need to set the manufacturer's recommended voltage in the BIOS.

You can't go far wrong with Crucial Ballistix but OCZ Platinum rev. 2 also seems to work well.
In fact if you check the IP35 Pro FAQ thread you'll find a list of RAM that users say works fine.
The boards are very closely related so pretty much if it works on 1 IP35 it works in the others.

Hi BUFF (you seem to be everywhere) ;-)

Thanks your repying again, much appreciated.

I'd also really appreciate your opionon on the question I just asked Master of None on the Abit forum. I'll repeat it here:

"Someone wrote to me that I would get temperature problems with a Q6600 on the IP35-E.

(More specifically he wrote: "as for a quad on a IP35-E, your PWM temps will be warmer than usual and prepare for vdroop under loads.")

Do you think it's something I should be concerned about? Even though I'm not overclocking?"

    Cheers,
    Jonesy

Yes, PWM will be warmer than with a dual because with 2 more cores it draws more power.
If you aren't overclocking it won't be a problem.
