if your thinking of getting 4gb of ram then 2x 2gb sticks would be best.

I got an LG optical drive as it was one of the few SATA drives available from Scan a year ago. It worked fine for 6 months and then started making grinding noises, though it still seemed to work. (...) After another couple of months it started to produce an unacceptable number of coasters.
I've replaced it and won't be buying LG for optical drives in the future. YMMV

Any particular reason for the Sli motherboard? Might be better to opt for a P5B/low end P5K.... you going to be overclocking at all? Any flexibility on price?

I disagree, if you plan on upgrading to 8GB of DDR2 any time soon then sure go for 2x 2gb but
A. Why would you need 8gb of RAM anytime soon
B. Why spend double the money on the same amount of ram with slacker timings when your next upgrade will almost certainly be to DDR3 anyway.
If you want a budget motherboard i'd go with the abit IP-35 (or the E version if it's really tight) unless you really want SLi.
It's not a bad board really but the P35 chipsets run cooler and overclock better if you need those features.
My other suggestion would be to not get that PSU, a lot of people have problems with them..well..blowing up. I'd have the 520w corsair HX whisper if it were me. Far better quality and basically silent.
You might also consider not getting the extra RAM and upgrading the CPU to a Q6600.. thats a much better way to spend the money as 2gb is pretty much enough for most applications and the quad core will be awesome for a long time.

Hi... I agree with everything staffsMike says. Particularly about the Hiper PSU. The Corsair is far far superior, particularly on the noise front, as well as what it can supply on the 12V rail. And I know, because I had to replace my Hiper Type-R with a Corsair 520, as the Hiper started making very loud and weird squealing noises, like a very angry pig was stuck inside it.
Very very strange.

Have a look at the Coolermaster RC-690, slightly cheaper than the Antec 900 and has many better features, design might not have the same appeal though.

I would stay away from the 64bit version of Vista if you plan on using the PC for recreational purposes, some would say to stay away from vista entirely :)
Re: New system, will order now if you approve
Go for the Wester Digital WD2500AAKS, 16MB cache and they're uber quiet.
Re: New system, will order now if you approve
You'll be glad to know the the 320MB on the 8800GTS wouldnt go too well with higher resolutions, also some games will have conflicts with its half'ed up memory..
I'd say up £30 for a proper 640MB or a 2900XT
Re: New system, will order now if you approve
Stay away from the P5N, nForce 6 chipsets aren't the best. Get a P5K instead.
