    Re: Newbie Caddy help

morning and thanks for quick reply.

Well, so u connect the power and IDE face to the drive, then the case to the computer through USB, and it should come up under "My Computer" automaticly right? does the computer have to be turned off? or can u plug it in the usb in and out at any time?

    thanks

You'll need to plug the caddys power supply in, the HDD canoot be powered over USB so it needs an external power source.

    Re: Newbie Caddy help

done that, the lights come on, u can head the HD running. But nothing in windows XP, it says set it as "master ide", on a western digital drive that means no jumper on right? well i tried it with and without a jumper.

do i need to format the HD through the motherboard first?

If the HDD is unformated, then it won't show in My Computer.

Try right click 'My Computer' > Manage, and go to Storage > Disk Management on the left side, and see if it's shown there. If it does show there as un-formatted, then you can format it from there.
