What to upgrade?

Right, i've got abit of spare cash to spend (£300) yet i don't know what i should upgrade in my system.

CPU: AMD 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
Mobo: DFI Lanparty nf4 Ultra-D
Ram: Corsair - 2 X 1GB PC3200
Video: 256MB XFX 6800GT PCI-E
Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy 2
HDD: 3 x 160G Samsung SATA

It's showing abit of age i know - I was thinking about waiting for Crysis to come out then think about a upgrade option yet what would everyone recommend?

What's the CPU overclocked to btw?

The CPU is not overclocked.

I'm thinking about the 8800GTS if i was to purchase one, would anyone advise otherwise?

The PSU will have to be upgraded in order to run high end Graphics cards.

So for £300 with a new PSU I suggest
PSU: 520W Corsair HX or 500W Seasonic S12II-500
for Graphics: 8800GTS 320MB or HD 2900XT.
The 8800GTS 640MB will not give you any higher performance.

An 8800GTS 320Mb. Doubt you'll need a new PSU, but if you do get a Corsair VX450, anything more than that is just willy waving.

520w HX is modular so it has it's advantages.

The 400w Enermax modular look interesting if modular is something you want. Same price as the 450w VX if you're interested.

Current games are running really choppy at 1680x1050 with my 6800gt i was wondering how does the 8800GTS handle current games at that res?

I run everything at full detail at that res with my 8800GTS.. it's pretty much perfect for for it. You will only have to start lowering it when playing more demanding games at 1920 x 1200 or if something else bottlenecks it.

You've got a beast of a motherboard, have you never considered it?

I actually overclocked it when i first got it however i think as it was a super hot summer i had reset the bios to the deault thus removing the overclock to keep it nice and cool.

But i may consider doing it this week as it's getting colder and need something to keep me warm
