hello,
Thankyou derchris!
I think I may have got it working. I tried disabling firewall for 15 min. In network places, on the downstairs PC, I clicked add network place, and typed in \\LAPTOP\SharedDocs, and it worked. I did the same on the laptop, but vice-versa. It would be nice if I could get the whole PC on there, how do I do this?
In the mean time, I'll try fixing the firewall, and adding the vista PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again!

I just thought of how stupid that would be, so yeah, I won't bother with the whole disk.
Is turns out definetly to be the ruddy norton firewall. Anyone know how I can get it to allow my Pc's to talk to each other?

hello,
Yes, I'd already said that...
Just this time however it actually worked, as I knew what to do to check.

hello,
I can't uninstall my firewall, it wouldn't be safe. Basically, Norton is a nightmare to use, and I have no expert knowledge in this area. Any ideas what I have to enable, disable etc to let my Pc's through?

If you have the wireless devices connected to the network with WPA encryption you don't need a firewall really. Although get rid of Norton entirely, it's just buggy bloated malware. Use the Windows built in firewall if you actually need it.
hello,
Thanks for your reply guys. Derchris, I am using Norton 360, which is exceptionally bloated. Any ideas?

I can't, still got 8 months left on my subscription, it costs money.

However, once you've made a purchasing mistake, don't be beholden to it, pick up another product that does what you want it to do.
Personally, I use ZoneAlarm suite, I like it for it's easy to use interface and the fact that it watches over just about every part of the system. For example, you can allow a program to access parts of Windows, but if you don't think it should then get access to the internet, you can block it and see if it affects the program's function.
Only time I feel it's being a little bloated is when it's doing a full system scan and eats up all my CPU, but then again, I have a crappy P4 3.06GHz atm. On a Dual or Quad core I imagine you can make it run more effeciantly by assigning it to just one core.
