Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
Hi,
I'm running,
Q6600 G0
Gigabyte ga-p35-s3
Akasa 965 side blowing hsf
300 gb seagate
530 W hiper psu
asus 8800gts 320mb
dvdrw
2gb corsair 6400 cas 5
So the weird thing is my case temp is 42-43C and my cpu temp is only 29C.
I have a pretty generic case with a 90mm exhaust fan and a 80mm intake fan.
The psu has a 120mm fan.
I was going to mod the case with a TAC but due to the size and position of the cooler it won't fit.
Any suggestions .. not oppose to cutting holes in the case.
Thanks.:surprised:
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
sometimes the motherboard sensors are not correct and sometimes the software reading the sensors get it mixed up, so your case temp might be 29C and cpu is 43C
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
My temps are higher than that:
- Around 46C for case on idle | hitting around 50+ on load
- Around 36C for CPU on idle | hitting around 50+ on load
I am not too conncerned atm as my machine is only 3 weeks old...however I would like to to know whether these temp readings are inaccurate?
Mobo is Asus Blitz Formula
I may add my scythe 120 fan to the case
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
Any reading that shows the case as being hotter than the CPU is inaccurate (for either the case or CPU, maybe both). Unless you have a TEC/air conditioning/cryo style cooler, the CPU is conducting heat into the case - if the case were hotter it would be the other way around :p
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
But it shows the same in bios, in Everest and in easy tune 5.
So if they are inaccurate how would I fix it.
In bios the case temp is lower than the cpu temp until I attach the side panel ... and these temps seem about the norm for the CPU as if they were 41C for a g0 stepping Q6600 that would be high.
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
Hi,
I took a printscreen ... do these look OK
http://img48.imageshack.us/img48/8227/tempsyw4.th.jpg
I just ran bioshock for a while and it was the cpu temp that rose from 20C to 28C and the other temp, system temp, stayed the same.
So the don't seem to be mixed up .. the system temp is higher than the CPU temp in easy tuner hardware monitor.
?????
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
Mentally add 20 onto the figures you see for the CPU? :p

Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
I think most of those pieces of software are known to often show the wrong temperatures. SpeedFan especially. It works a charm for me, but many people report completely wrong temps. I'm not sure about the Gigabyte software, although all the stuff that came with my DS4 is pretty dodgy :P
If I was you, I'd get CoreTemp and see how that goes for CPU temp. As for the temperatures though, I think I can see sensible results there. The system temperature by the way, is usually a temperature of the motherboard's chipset, rather than just the general internal temperature of your case.
By looking at those results, I'm guessing that your SpeedFan is pretty accurate. Temp1 is your motherboard, and 37C is logical and also a decent temperature. And then your Core temperature is 43 which makes sense too. Just 6 degrees more than the motherboard, which makes sense. The hard disk looks very accurate to me too by the way.
The only wierd ones really are those little individual core temps. 13C is too unless you have some super water cooling kit or something.
So basically, I think you are doing fine. And if you want to confirm your CPU temps, then "CoreTemp" should do it.
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
This is what happenes when I run Bioshock
http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6...mps2qx1.th.jpg
The only temp that goes up is the one at 20C it goes to 28C the one at 37C doesn't increase.
The system temp wouldn't go up this much playing a game for a few minutes would it? Also the readings for the cores i.e. 15C etc also rise at that point
Thats is what is confusing me.
If I take everest (motherboard) or easytune5 in the bottom right cpu temp they are the same as the cpu temp in Bios and they are at 20C and this is the only temp that goes up when I play a game ... it went up to 28C after playing bioshock for a bit.
Also this seems to fit with the temperature of the cores given in speedfan... they are all below 20C.
Yet in speedfan the core temp is 43C .. this is the same as the GPU temp in everest and rivatuner ..not here.
So by my reconning:
CPU temps:
Everest (motherboard temp) 20C
CPU BIOS 20C
PC health in easytune5 20C
GPU temp:
Rivatuner 43C
Everest 43C
And so I'm guessing the core temp in speedfan is relating to gpu temp as this is also 43C
System temp:
In bios 37C
In PC health from easy tune 5 (bottom right) 37C
Temp 1 in speedfan 37C
What do you think?
I have just tried to match the temps in the various apps.
Like I know I can trust rivatuner as it goes up and down as I play games - and that temp seems to match core in speedfan.
I just matched the other ones in a similar way.
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
I ran core temp
Tjuction 100 C
core #0 33C
core #1 28C
core #2 33C
core #3 28C
So these are ok for a g0 Q6600? - do these temps indicate it would be ok to start a medium overclock.
At the same time speedfan is showing temps of 15 C ... and in the chart section there is a temp of -2 yes that is minus 2 celcius...lol
Thanks guys.

That looks more realistic to me. But I'm not a quad core user so I don't know their temperatures as well as dual core. There is a detailed thread here somewhere, all about overclocking a Quad Core CPU. So that might help you, because it will probably have lots of discussion of temperatures.
Also, your system temp looks about perfect to me. That is similar to mine too by the way. Mine goes up a couple of degrees when I'm playing a game, but usually its around that temp. But on a very hot day in the summer, it could go up to almost 50C. I got worried and contacted Gigabyte and they said 50C is fine. :)
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
Cheers acrobat I think I'm more worried why even in the BIOS the cpu temp is lower than the system temp .. but I did the same last night I sent of an email to gigabyte.
I'm also curious to why the temperatures in cpu bios aren't even close to the temps of coretemp:(

My temps are almost identical to yours. Some Mobo aswell.
I get 28 - 29 for cpu on idle while the case temp is around 41 - 42
I just thought is was because i had a big heatsink over the CPU and the rest of the case was being warmed by the mainboard and the graghics card.
Or am i wrong?
Re: Case temp higher than cpu temp 42C case 29C cpu
Ah... the perennial problem of accurate temperature measurement.
Use a whole array of different programs and some common sense, is all I can really offer.
