    Question Shuttles // SN41G2 or SN45G / For a media PC

Ok i am building a media PC / Linux box and am considering a Shuttle

Now which do you think would be best suited? SN41G2 or SN45G?

I need optical out, but would also like to save as much money as possible (SN41G2 is £10 more). The SN45G has no graphics card (i have a Matrox G400 32meg - that is all i have spare and am NOT buying another card).

All that would go in this is: TV Card, Graphics (if SN45G), 80gig Samsung IDE HDD, Toshiba DVD, XP1800 (Pally).

    So what do you think?

As to be honest i am

Firstly theres the visual differences, for me the sn41 looks 10x better than the dated look of the sn45. Not quite sure why shuttle reverted back to the previous design... sure there must be a logical reason for it though.

    SN45G:

    SN41G2:

SN41G2B: (deffo the looker of the 3 )

The next difference is that the SN41G2/B have onboard gf4MX graphics, where as the SN45G comes with no gfx, so you will have to use that matrox card.

The other main difference is that the SN45G2 uses the nforce ultra 400 chipset, capable of going upto 200FSB, which won't be an issue with your XP1800 chip.

As for fitting it all in, presuming the gfx card is AGP then you will have no problems.

SN41G2 is the pick of the bunch for a media PC box

/pats XTR, ta for hosting ;P

Personally given your situation i'd go for an sn41 and use the onboard gfx and tv-out. I've owned both an SN41 and my current SN45 loved em both but i've found the SN45 to be slightly more stable but the down side is you've gotta get a decent gfx card in them as the have no onboard.

Would the SN45G take a 1800XP Pally? and do either of these have Soundstorm? (I would like to connect the machine to my surround sound amp).
