What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
Well i guess this should say - not heard really! Looking to buy either an E6750 or Q6600 (yeah i've read the threads and people still seem undecided - like me - which 'is best') and want the quietest system possible - hence me leaning towards the c2d due to lower power consumption (presumably less heat and less cooling therefore less noise?).
What suggestions for a very quiet cooler???
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
Has to be the Freezer 7 Pro at half speed.
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
Ninja Rev. B fanless, silent, or the Freezer 7 Pro on anything lower than 60%, both super quiet, the F7P is dirt cheap as well, whihc makes it all the better IMO
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
Ninja no contest. Use it passive if you want or very low speed fans with almost Thermalright extreme 120 results.
Totally silent even with the fan.
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
Freezer 7 Pro - this looses performance when ran at anything but 100%
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
I would have thought anything would lose performance with the fans at less than 100%. Unless your PC is in a wind tunnel. With no case.
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
Sorry, I meant to say looses more performance than average when not 100%. So a Scythe Ninja will still be an excellent cooler when ran at 60% and still give great temps. If the Freezer Pro was at 60% then its temps would dramatically increase, it was designed to be ran at full speed.
Will try and find the review.

I'm about to run a E6750 with the Thermalright XP120 (+ LGA775 adapter) - with my current machine (A64 3200+ overclocked to 2.5GHz) and the fan (Noiseblocker SX1) doesn't even spin most of the time. Will report my findings after I have installed it all and overclocked to the max.
Otherwise the Scythe Ninja seems to be the optimal choice at the moment.
edit: Just to note on the F7P - one of my friends has one of these and he really struggles to keep his computer stable when it is running anything much less than 100%. It is definitely not quiet at 100%, I would personally avoid it.

Yup, agree on that. Is what I use to cool my e6600. But you need a large case for it...

Not strickly true, i have one of these and my fan hardly ever has to spin up normally, it may just start while playing a game but low.
Your statement is true when your talking about a cpu thats been overclocked quite a way, but the freezer 7 pro on a cpu thats not been overclocked will performe brilliantly.
I've never seen my cpu above 27c in the bios.
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
I have QuadGTs with Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and Tunic Tower 120 - and the TT 120 with the fan at it's lowest is just as quiet as the ACF7 - and the CPU is a lot cooler.....
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
I dont think the heatsink has anything to do with it. Its just whatever fan you use that determines how much noise it makes. And in a lot of cases, you can pick what that is. So I think you are best researching 120mm fans, rather than the cooler's specifically.
For example, you can buy a Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme and stick a 4000rpm fan on it that sounds like a jumbo jet. Or you can use it with no fan at all and its completely silent.
p.s. Although I did used to have an AC 7 Pro, and it was silent. But I don't think I had mine running at full speed.
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
acrobat: Well its a mix of both. If you have a super-efficient heatsink, then you can get away with using a fan which pushes much less air and is thus quieter. Both sides of the equation have to be looked at.
Re: What is the quietest S775 cooler that you've seen (heard!)
If you're getting a quad, I would suggest a Thermalright Ultra120 extreme with any quiet fan

Scythe Mine.
Best cooler i have EVER had and inaudible.
