    motherboard reccomendations......

    hi

need to upgrade my mobo and ram to 800mhz but need the mobo first this month. i have a budget of £65 inc postage unless i manage to sell my current board to fund a more expensive model.

i have the kit below and mobo must run 800 mhz ram. not fussed about ddr3 compatibility now but do need sata2.

i have looked at abit, gigabyte and asus boards but really can't decide. all p35 boards but would consider p965 boards but future proffing etc etc.

please vote and add comments. some overclocking may happen to see what my cpu can actually achieve.

    Re: motherboard reccomendations......

ABIT dropped the ball a while back but, imho, are now back at the top of the tree. My last 4 boards have been ABIT and all have been exceptional.

ASUS boards are decent but their support licks bawls so i wouldnt touch them with a barge pole.

Gigabyte.........dunno really. Never owned one and seriously doubt i ever will.

    Re: motherboard reccomendations......

Bought the Gigabyte board Saturday for £72:00 (I know I could have got it cheaper online).

Never overclocked before and got a e2180 from 2.00GHz to 3.00GHz straight away.

Will have more of a play when my new CPU cooler arrives.

Loads of outlets: 12 usb, 8 SATA, Optical out, etc, etc.

    I'm very pleased.

    Re: motherboard reccomendations......

what the one on my pick list?

sounds good, i have read that my E6300 are suppost to o/c well but when i tried it didn;t do anything, but i think it's the mobo unless i really havent got a clue on o/c it.

my system is painfully slow at the moment, but i think the ram may hinder it to.

No probs with my slightly older giga, one of the attractions for me was a parallel port and firewire...............yeah I know I could buy cards but why clog up my slots or mess around with adaptors.

    I got the GA-P35-DS3R

No firewire on the back - but I don't need.

    Nicely packaged board.

I thought firewire was useful to plug in your digital camera for downloading photos...erm maybe it was USB I used when downloading some pics for a friend about 5 months ago.
