Hi-Fis, MP3 players and USB Hard drives

    Hi,

HOw do you get a Hi-Fi, that has an external USB connection, to recognise music on an external hard drive? it can do it with a hard disk MP3 player, but not an external hard drive for some reason... what's the difference?

Re: Hi-Fis, MP3 players and USB Hard drives

At a guess, perhaps there's a lack of power available? It depends whether you mean external HDD or whether you mean the equivilent of a USB memory stick as they have differing power useages.

Is it to do with the file system in use? FAT32 v NTFS?

    OK, got it.

needed to make a 32GB partition, and format it to FAT32.

fat32 is NOT limited to 32GiB. this is an artificial limit in recent versions of windows - use an alternate formatting tool and you can use the full capacity with fat32
