Question with regards to my ASUS P5K Deluxe

    Hi Guys,

    I have two questions.

    1. When i turn my machine i get power for a couple of seconds then it goes of theres a pause for a couple of seconds and then it boots up fine, but why is there the on, off, pause and then one?

    2. When i turn my machine off its all fine except when its shut windows down it appears to turn off the harddrives then pause then turn the rest of the system off, again why is this?

Do i have faulty equipment somewhere or what?

    All help greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Investigate your power settings in the bios, i've got a P5KC and i'm experiencing boot problems also.

Have you tried the Asus forums, i don't think this problem is unique, i'm sure i've read of others with similar problems.

Regarding number 1. Its normal, most c2d boards do it in varying degrees of annoyance.

Re: Question with regards to my ASUS P5K Deluxe

I already have my RAM set up as per your guide (Great Guide)

My main problem is having reset my motherboard after changing a power option that mucked it up i can now no longer see my raid setup as one drive, windows displays it as two. but if i configure the bios to raid the pc wnt boot...help. I can't find the the onboard serial-ata bootrom option?

Re: Question with regards to my ASUS P5K Deluxe

When you reset the CMOS, all your settings are lost, so you have to re-enter them yourself, and that will probably include the RAID settings, but once you enable RAID, it should see the array.

I dont use the onboard RAID, so maybe someone else can comment on that

    cheers clunk

im just a bit gutted cause i had it all setup perfectly and was dead happy just those two problems and in one fell swoop i go and wreck it all. I dnt understand though why turning raid on would wreck it?

Re: Question with regards to my ASUS P5K Deluxe

You havent changed the cables around have you? Again, I'm not 100% sure on this, but you have 2x sata controllers, the Jmicron and the intel, and maybe you havent got one or more of the drives plugged into the correct controller?

Also, check your cables, the supplied ones are notoriously kack

Re: Question with regards to my ASUS P5K Deluxe

Some how resetting the BIOS, has cured the boot up issue and as for the it killing my RAID i've found if you unplug the drives in the RAID config from the board reset the board, boot the machine go into the bios and select RAID Config, then restart boot to the login prompt and then turn off and plug the drive cables back in to where they should be, it works hope that makes sense now and that it helps someone out there.

Re: Question with regards to my ASUS P5K Deluxe

If you reset the BIOS to defaults, then it loses knowledge of the RAID controller and assumes they are two seperate drives. You have to go into the RAID bios, check the array is setup and then save, then go back into the main bios and tell it to boot from the RAID array.

    Cheers,
    Stephen
