Asus Stiker Extreme - need some help
Hi all,
as some of you might already know, I have some problems with my PC.
Here's a short summary:
MB is a Asus Striker Extreme, CPU Pentium-D 830 3 GHz, Memory Corsair XMS2 667 MHz.
PC was only able to boot / work stable when I set the Memory in Linked Mode with CPU to 400 MHz.
System was ok. Then I got a tip from staffsMike, about the Crucial Ballistix.
I ordered 2x1 GB.
I tried them today, FSB/Memory to Auto. Then I rebooted, and the same problem.
System is not coming up, and I'm not able to get into the BIOS at all.
Also tried to Clear CMOS, the same. It just hangs, sometimes with no VGA Signal at all.
There seems to be another problem.
I'm currently thinking that the CPU is the problem of it all, as it is not a new one.
Going to get a Q6600 anyway, but what if the problem is still the same?
Any help is much appreciated
Regards,
Christian
Re: Asus Stiker Extreme - need some help
you may need to get the RAM voltage set to 2.2v before you put the ballistix in.
you could also try on one stick of ram to do the same thing.
Re: Asus Stiker Extreme - need some help
No luck.
I was able to get into the BIOS with another Memory from Geil, I have set the voltage for the memory to 2.2V and the timings to 4-4-4-12
System doesn't boot, it powers on, but nothing on the screen.
I'm currently trying to reset the CMOS to set it to 400 MHz, as with that setting it is working.
I'm still thinking that the CPU is the problem here.
Re: Asus Stiker Extreme - need some help
Well, I give up now.
Since yesterday I'm trying to get my system back to work.
I tried it with 3 different Memory modules, in all off the 4 slots. Alone, Dual-Channel.
No success. Sometimes it isn't booting at all, then I see only garbage on the screen and are not able to go to the BIOS. Then when I finaly managed to open the BIOS, after several times of trying, it freezes after a while, and the whole story begins again.
I don't know what is the problem here, the system was working ok 2 days ago.
Somehow there is something wrong, but I can't tell what.
Looks like I'm going to buy a new MB together with a Q6600.
The P5K looks good for me, and there are many of you using it anyway.
All I want is a running stable system.
Re: Asus Stiker Extreme - need some help
the striker extreme is very temperamental, i am not running q6600. i changed from the e6600 and the truth is each time i will have to go thru so much just to get it running. sometimes it doesnt like the hdd sometimes the ram and one time i had to take the cpu out put it back in and it worked. just keep trying is all i can say to you or just sell it and get another board.
one last thought i booted to bios with only one ram stick and set everything to auto except the ram voltage increased to 2.3v in my case. it didnt work at first so i left it on for a while then turned everything off and when i turned it on again it suddenly worked.
