E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
My system specs as below:-
e6300 @ 2800 ghz
P5b Deluxe
Corsair Dominator 6400 C4D 2GB
Corsair 620W PSU
Thermaltake Big Typhoon cooler
i do a lot but i can not go beyond 2900 MHz , stable at 2800 MHz
i read many many reviews/guides regarding this issue, spent a lot of time in front of PC,
my room temp. is usually 30 to 35 C,
i am using my casing since November 2001 and i always keep it open
is it due to temp or casing or both or none of them?
i always see OC guides for "beginners" , is there OC guide for "experts" ?
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
Well hang on a minute, a stable OC from 1.86 to 2.8 is a prety good free increase in speed and performance, and it might be asking a bit much to reliably go further. that is the equivalent of buying one of the cheapest C2D parts and getting the performance of the fastest C2D part costin a great deal more! That is a pretty goo over-clock!
You do not give any details on your temps, volts or other settings, idle / orthos but it might be you have taken your system close to as far as it will go?
There are no overclocking guides for 'experts', because 'experts' don't need them; they tweak, fiddle, research and use trial and error and their expertise to get where they get - and they often are not going to readily or easily just give away such hard earned knowledge to others.
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
CPU Volt in BIOS 1.43, and cpuz 1.41, asus prob, everest show it 1.40 v and this is minimum voltage which is required to run Orthos, OCCT, 2xPrime 95, and i run all these for several hours successfully.
CPU voltage for Gaming is 1.37 in BIOS which = 1.35 in windows
NB Voltage is 1.45, any increase in it does not increase the External frequency
FSB Voltage = 1.4 V
RAM Voltage = 2.1v , which is Default voltage
i usually use 4.4.4.12 for RAM, but loosing these timings does not result in any further overclocking,
CPU Temp. in idle = 43 - 45 C
CPU Temp with gaming = 53 - 55 C
CPU Temp with Orthos , TAT , OCCT = b/w 65 and 70 C
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
hello,
I am pretty amazed at that speed, I couldn't believe you could get it that high!
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
well if you want to OC further you need to try CPU at 1.5v - 1.525v is often a sweet spot... I managed to come back from that to 1.505v. At 1.525 for me Orthos runs forever, at 1.505v it fails after about 15 hours... but that'll do fo me. I have only ever had one BSOD and that was last night - and since I added an X-Fi Extream soundcard last week I wonder if that is involved....
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
have you turned off useless things like virtualisation etc? such things could affect the heat disappated from the chipset
I think you should consider better cooling also, mine runs @ 3.22 yet when it's idle my temps are about 28 degrees
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
Yes, i already disabled all options in CPU Configuration expect Execute bit, i also increased the VCore upto 1.55, but my system does not boot after 419 FSB, and it is full stable at 400 FSB, i also tried to jump to higher freq. e.g. 470 FSB so i cross the strap but no further overclocking,
i will try for better cooling,
my casing is around 6 year old and i always keep it open, do i need to update the casing?
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
yeah I'd say so, perhaps an aluminium case with ventilation..
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
Drop the voltage, drop the multiplier and see what the highest FSB is that you can hit.
From there you should be able to work out whats holding you back.
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
I already tried by dropping the multiplier to 6 but FSB did not exceed 419 MHz as it is in case of 7 multiplier,
does my RAM Dominator C4D (Promo chip) preventing further overclocking?
i also tried with more than 5 different version of BIOS but the result remains same,

Post your bios settings :)

7*400 = 2.8GHz = 800 MHz RAM at 1:1 = PC6400 so it is at the designed max speed of your RAM....
However Corsair RAM usually overclocks well, so you might be RAM limited, and you might not. Personally I don't think so (but I will be very pleased for you if you prove me wrong..:) ). You already have a stonking OC and lots of free performance, you simply may have got the best you can.
Re: E6300 can not go beyond 2900 MHz
crappy locked multiplier is whats keeping you back man

That's one damn hot room, is that correct, if so you might never be able to hit massive oclocks as eventually you'll be limited by temperature.
