Waste of time and money. It only does UDP offloading. If you really want faster gaming go bitch out your ISP for their horribly latency.

Sorta, except that PhysX actually makes a difference to gameplay of some games.

I saw some labs tests somewhere that showed between a 5-10 fps gain in some online games (CSS and WOW were on the test list)... though whether that's worth £150+ depends on how rich you are.

The only places I can remember seeing reviews of this device also happened to be running ads for it...

There are probably some independent tests out there now, though.

It wasn't exactly glowing that I can recall, more along the lines of 'it works but a good overclock would give you more or less the same result'. I guess it all depends on exactly how much you're prepared to spend on getting the most edge.

Like I said, a low latency endpoint can do the same job for free, a non-sucky ISP is a given, and better still would be an Operating System without an overly syncronous TCP/IP stack (as such, it would be completely useless for a Linux box).

Micromart - Hardly the source of good reviews

Quite a lot of network cards have a TCP offload engine, even some motherboard chipsets come with one (e.g. some nForce series).

If I was building a system and had the choice between a £150 network card and spending that money putting a faster CPU and graphics card in a system, I'd spend the money where it can give me more than just 10fps extra i.e. CPU and GPU.

    Games use UDP

Those network cards (and motherboards) that do TCP offloading, will offer no performance gain for games and in some cases, slow them down

Killer offloads UDP, completely bypassing the windows network stack to offer a performance gain while gaming

If you want faster web browsing and downloading, sure, get a TCP offload setup. If you want better game performance, get a killer or show me another network card with UDP offloading and its own NPU and an LLR chipset (LLR = lag and latency reduction)

    Re: killer nick1

This is reviewed in the new Custom PC (Issue 50/Nov 07)...

"The Killer NIC is certainly a desirable piece of kit; if you can stomach the £180 price tag, it's a great purchace"

    Says it all really.

    Re: killer nick1

I have read the micromart review. They stated the same thing really.

the person said they got a 10 fps increase in whatever game they were playing but didnt say what it
was before. It didnt even mention if latency and pings etc were improved which is surely the main
    thing.... Duff review as predicted.
