Help me source an upto date gaming system for approx £500

My brother is looking to purchase a gaming system to play the latest games. He has a budget of £500 and doesn't need a new monitor. i am a bit out of touch with the latest core2 duo tech but basically i am looking at a decent c2d cpu, mobo, 2gb ram, 8800gts a case and a psu. a cheap sata hdd would be good too if possible.

Would be very appreciative if you could recommend some parts (which scan stocks) to make up this system.

    cheerz

You don't want to be going much lower than that tbh if you want a balanced gaming rig.

nice aidanjt, although i would go for the £160 8800GTS from todayonly or the X2900 PR0 for £150 and flash to a XT

get the CM RC-534 (about 35) or any other decent case and a decent £50 PSU, corsair, seasonic etc

perhaps get a E4300 c2d, overclock it a bit which is very simple

and check if you can find the ballistix ram for £50~ anywhere (pc2-6400)

consider getting a 500gb hdd, very good price/gb

Since the 2GB Corsair CAS 5 is not in stock at scan you have to go for CAS 4.

Here's what I could come up with for under £516.

    2GB (2x1GB) Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC2-6400 (800) CAS 4-4-4-12
Coolermaster RC-330 Elite Black Midi Tower Case
    320MB XFX 8800GTS < today only
    Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
    Intel Core 2 Duo E6550
    320 Gb Western Digital
    450W Corsair VX
