Hello everyone, I've had a firewire card for 2 years or more, it's been no trouble at all despite being a fiver and non branded. As soon as I got my new quad core compute (gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R +Q6600), it's started acting up. Sometimes my external soundcard doesn't boot up or stops working and has to be reinitialised by unplugging and re-plugging and then it's fine. The people at Saffire say that this happens with newer PCs with Firewire PCI cards that have an NEC chipset (and are cheap). If it still happens when I get a better card then there could be something wrong with the external soundcard or the motherboard. I don't know anyone else who has firewire to try things out with and getting a better firewire card seems to be the next step for now.
So, I need a non NEC chip (so VIA or Texas Instruments) from a good brand. I only really need one that is FW400 and as few ports as possible as I only have one Firewire unit. Scan only seem to do cheap ones that don't specify what they are at all and some other places like Aria have ones that are £60 to £100 for seemingly no reason. Can anyone recommend me a card?
Thanks!
