    sata drives

im wanting to add an extra drive to my system and the only easy way i can think of doing it is to add a sata drive. ive already got 2 hard drives and 2 roms connected so all ides are used. im running a abit ic7-max3 board which has sata. woudl i simply just connect the drive up as normal and enable sata in bios as fdisk and away we go.

ok cheers xtr. that sounds pretty straight forward. does it require an updated version of fdisk or does the normal 98 fdisk work ok

Are you going to be using it as your primary drive??????
If not then just follow XTR's guide
    The normal fdisk works.

Make sure you plug it into the Intel SATA ports rather than the silicon image as I think you need to install drivers if you want to use the drive as a boot drive.

No need to FDisk.... Or at least, I didnt have to FDisk my 200gig Maxtor SATA. I just used Computer Management MMC to convert the disk then format it using NTFS.

You can run raid from either of the sata controllers, but the Intel ICH5-R doesn't use the pci bus (the silicon one does), so the Intel one should be quicker.
