38mm for the heatsink then another 25mm for the fan, so 63mm for the thermalright & fan vs 30mm for the Zalman or 32mm for the stock cooler.

you can actually mount a 120mm fan on the HR-03 with the stock clips, uses 4 slots front mounted, but only 1.5 slots rear mounted

When installed, it looks something like the photo below.

That's on an Asus motherboard. On a Gigabyte P35 board, the PCI-E slot is one slot nearer to the CPU I think, so there would be a bit more room.

in that pic, it looks like the thermalright is actually sitting on the gfx card.. does that not add alot of weight to the gfx card, and increase maybe the strain on it, as the pcb may be stretching?

You can place the HR03 in two different orientations, so you can have the majority of the cooler on the other side of the graphics card as shown in that pic above. SLI is still supposed to be possible... although somewhat unlikely if you have a huge CPU heatsink as well I reckon.

when you say front mounted and rear mounted, are u talking about the actual gfx cooler or the way the fan is mounted on the gfx cooler?

He's talking about the actual graphics cooler.

So... on the rear like this:
