Hard Drive problem or motherboard battery problem?

I ran a diagnostic test (F12 test) on a Dell Inspiron 1150 and when it is testing the hard drive it comes up with this message:

"DST Short Test - 'Fail' - code 1000-0146."

Is this a hard drive failure (e.g. some cables came loose) or MB battery failure?

I reformatted the hard drive and it is still coming up with this problem although it boots up fine (actually quite quick) and access to the C: drive is fine. There is some very slight clicking sounds at start up as if the hard disk is searching but it goes after around 2 secs).

Seems like it could also be an overheat issue.

DST sounds like SMART test. Download HDTune and see what it says.
