my second pc runs it's e6600 at 18 degrees on one core and 19 on the other, TAT and coretemp say the same thing

Depends on the air temp I guess...

I remember getting 17 or 16C (maybe even 12C, can't remember, I know it was low) once on a 'lesser' rig.

My chip is still screwed :/ Lowest I get is about 40oC, and thats idle, stock speed, with a Thermalright 120 ultra extreme and a fan running at double your fan's speed

I'm planning on just selling it.

Acrobat, you have some serious problems if that's the E6600.

Ever thought of a warranty replacement?

Yeah its an E6600. I'm not sure if I would be covered under warrenty because its still below dangerous levels. I'm going to test it in another computer next week and then I'll know for sure if its the chip or what. And then I'm not sure what I would do. Hopefully just sell it on Ebay or whatever. The temps you folks get are amazing :O And that first one is with a really low speed fan too... which just shows how far off my chip is :C

Have you checked to see if the cpu fan is fixed securly ?
Just a thought as the first time i put a fan ( stock fan ) on a C2D it didnt fix correctly
2 of the fixing points "popped out"
noticed in the pre boot checks so was ok

One must remember that motherboard/chip thermistors are not known to be tremendously accurate, and it's likely that the 17° result is just as far from the actual chip temperature as the 40° reading.

From what I know, they've switched to digital sensors now on the later motherboards, surely they're more accurate?
