Out of interest, what's so special about that particular PSU? Is it particularly quiet? Reliable? Low ripple?

There's no real information on the site you've linked to other than it outputs around the same wattage as a Corsair HX 520 (since it's only rated 610 @ 40, compared to 520 @ 50).

PC power & Cooling psu's are legendary and regarded by most o/clockers Stateside as the best, they've recently been bought out by OCZ so we should start to see them over here !

I have never owned one (thats why i thought i would try it out.

Fact remains that on over the pond, they all rate PC P&C and Zippys as the best money can buy.

You laugh at saying there isnt anything special about it and then the next sentence you state 'its a little better than the 620W Corsair.

With the point being that its a good £30-40 cheaper than the 620W Corsair and still a better unit, why is that funny? It makes perfect sense.
I realise you are a big fan of Corsair but c'mon for gods sake, dont get blinkered a PSU.

Also, last thing , they have got a slight noise increase apparently but once again, nothing audible over a good GPU fan, which, lets face it, if you want a PSU like this, you are hardly going to be running a silent media box are you.

620w corsair is about £90 and since you have to pay for carriage from aria you're talking maybe £10 or £15 difference.

It I wouldn't buy the 620w corsair if it were me but I can understand why people would, due to the quality, noise and the fact it's modular which is useful for many people.

I'd have the 520w Corsair over that one any day having seen what it's capable of and having no experience except what the americans tell you about the other one

As rightly pointed out by amjedm in the linked thread, the PCP&C PSU linked is actually made by Seasonic (who makes their own PSU, the current popular Corsair model, and a bunch of others I've lost track of). For the price (£70), it's a good deal, as Seasonic's own 600W model cost significantly more, and even Corsair's cost more. That said, after doing some digging, it would seem that the 80mm fans used in the Silencer model is not as quiet as the 120mm set up used in the Seasonic S12-series or the Corsair HX-series.

By the way, refering to the quote, PCP&C 'fame' most likely did not come from the (rather recent?) Silencer line. But rather their Turbo-Cool series. The Turbo-Cool series has a sustained power output measured at 50C, whereas most other PSU have a sustained output measured at 40C (including their Silencer line; though apparently not the Corsair HX-line; I actually didn't notice that till mentioned). That's where their claim for 'industrial grade performance' came by, and how they got their 'legendary reputation as the best'. While it has some merits (especially in server use), it comes down to whether it is relevant for the PC users (including enthusiasts). Oh, and their very long history doesn't hurt.

I am willing to sacrifice a 50C spec to 40C if it meant quieter operation (everything else being equal) since I do not gain anything from the former, whereas silence is golden when I am listening to music. Incidentally, if you are in for what PCP&C are good at, then the Silencer-line is really not representative of PCP&C brand/fame (you are really buying into their brand/support/price whatever is most important to you).
