New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
Hi, i've decided to build a new gaming pc (also lots of music and movies), so i browsed a few threads, red a few reviews and come up with this build:
Antec P182 Gun Metal Black Case
Antec 850W Truepower Quattro Modular Powersupply
Asus P5K PREMIUM/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600, S775, 2.40 GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 8MB Cache CPU - Retail - G0 Stepping
Tuniq T-120-LFB 120mm CPU Cooler
2x BL2KIT12864AA804 2GB kit (1GBx2), Ballistix 240-pin DIMM
BFG NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 768MB PCIe
2x Samsung 500GB HD501LJ Spinpoint T, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 16MB Hard Disk Drive (RAID 0)
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-FI Xtreme Gamer
Samsung 20x SATA Lightscribe DVDRW Dual Layer Black
Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5.1 505W RMS Speaker
New Logitech G15 Keyboard with GamePanel (should be available soon)
Logitech G9 Laser Mouse
Thats about it :ill: I am going to overclock the cpu (although i've never done it before so i hope those guides i've found on the net will help me out not to burn anything :D )
My budget is around 1800 and i wouldn't go much higher than that :(
I would welcome any suggestions, advice etc. Thanks a lot to everyone in advance :help: :stupid: :)
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
looks about perfect :)
PSU is overkill though. A corsair 520w HX whisper would run that methinks.. works great in the P182 as well.
I'd use scan to buy it (except for the RAM and HSF). If you get up to 25 constructive post in the hexus forums you will qualify for free delivery :)

Thanks staffsMike, i think i will stick with the psu (got great reviews from custompc and quite a few sites :) ) and i can't use any delivery service quite yet since i moved into a completely new place that don't come up on any maps or gps yet (only get royal mail :( ) so i was thinking of visiting yoyotech store since they have most things i need (although i've read quite a few threads about their bad customer service :) ) and i can pick up everything in an hour or so...
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
I think yoyotech are alright. They have a care forum here on hexus
http://forums.hexus.net/forumdisplay.php?f=193
seem to have a fairly loyal group of buyers :)
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
pretty good build...
but have to agree with staffsmike - pretty big PSU size...
getting a 520/620 Corsair would be cheaper, quieter and you can spend the extras on other stuff you like...
but see that you don't mind it then that's OK too!
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
PSU is overkill, whether or not it has good reviews there are many out there that perform better/equal.
I would recommend getting a lower wattage PSU and getting the P5K Deluxe with the money left over.
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
Thanks staffsMike, i,ve visited their yesterday and it looks alright, quite a choice for a small shop :D
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
Thanks ushe190 and DataMatrix, problem noted, so i,ve decided to go for a cheaper smaller psu :) Maybe by saving a few quid here and there i would manage to squeeze in a new 22" monitor :D Any advice on any particular psu and monitor?
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
I've also read the mega HSF review and thought that maybe i should go for the Thermaltake Big Typ VX instead of the Tuniq?
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
for psu, get a Corsair that we mentioned above, reliable, quiet, cheaper than your one, and good reviews too!
for monitor, depending on price, you can try a samsung e.g.

Thanks DataMatrix, i've read a few threads and it seems there is not much difference between Asus P5K Deluxe and Premium (although the Deluxe was the first one i looked at but looks like it has been discontinued as none off the sellers i've looked have any in stock :( )
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
What operating system are you intending to use ?? Remeber Windows XP 32 bit can't address 4 gig of ram, it can only address 3.2/3.5 gig of ram (although that didn't stop me putting an extra 2 gig of ram in my PC.

either is fine
Re: New Gaming PC - Advice Please (Help!!! :D)
I have a Tuniq & it's the absolute nuts! However it's s a bit of a monster, so make sure it's not going to be too tall for your case, like mine is lol :)

Hi, i'm planning to stick with XP at the moment, until any games worth playing become Vista only :) And yes, i know about the RAM, but just like you it won't stop me buying 4GB :D Maybe it will come in handy someday :)
