    Scan Today Only Build

I'm gonna try and buy as much of a new system this weekend while quite a few products are on Today Only at Scan. Just verifying what I've bought is OK and where I may have chosen the wrong product.

Items I can get on Today Only..

    - Intel Core 2 Quad-Core Q6600 G0
    - 520W Corsair HX V2 Series Modular PSU
    - 768MB ScanFX 8800GTX, PCI-E

Additional items to get (not on Today Only)...

    - Scythe Ninja HeatSink
    - Antec P182 Case
    - Abit IP35 Express

I'm not overclocking/RAID'ing so dont think i'll need the IP35 Pro and i'll get the Ballistix RAM from another retailer. Is this set up OK?

    Thanks in advance

sounds like a very nice PC

    quiet to.

Might be worth mentioning if you have 25 posts or more you could also get free delivery from scan.

    Re: Scan Today Only Build

just got my order from the weekend and the 8800 GTX is huge! From first look/feel it weighs more than the motherboard and sticks out the side. I've previously been using an AGP card and this PCI-E is twice the size. I assume this isn't a problem with the Antec P182 case?

    Re: Scan Today Only Build

The only issue I know of with the antec cases is that the clearance is tight between the end of the card and the drive bays.

Its normally best to pull the small drive cage when fitting the card and carefully slide it back in once your happy.

    Re: Scan Today Only Build

And you may need a little extender cable for the psu to the motherboard cable. The one with 4 / 8 pins.

Re: Scan Today Only Build (beware)

Just because they say they have them in stock, doesn’t always mean they do!

Today in their store, they told me they had what I wanted, took my money of my card, and then told me later they didn’t have them.

And then had the cheek to tell me I couldn’t have my money back for at least 3 working days.

    So the question is:
Do we now believe Scan, or not, when they say they have things in stock?
Shouldn’t they tell us first, when they haven’t got the item in stock, before taking our money?

(see thread about this above on the Scan forum)

    Re: Scan Today Only Build

Yeah I agree totally, I personally don't think Scan are anywhere near as good as people (and themselves) make out, had bad experiences. CS are good and do as much as they can, but you shouldn't have to rely on that. The only company I know who think getting an order out on time is a real achievement

    Re: Scan Today Only Build

Thanks Dreaming, I remember reading about those cables being needed a few weeks ago in another post. I'll get it the same time as I get my HDD's.

Scan have always been good for me though it's always a pain having to pay for stuff to be RMA'd back to them when having been sent dodgy hardware. I know my brother has had massive problems with Scan in the past over a few big orders and now wont touch them with a bargepole. I think I'll choose to stick with them until such a time as they let me down.
