    Do I need more power?

Hi all. Two questions really, is the PSU enough to power this machine? And would you suggest any changes to that system? It looks pretty good to me!

    CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0ghz
    Graphics Card 1 - 768mb ScanFX 8800 GTX
    Graphics Card 2 - 768mb ScanFX 8800 GTX
    Motherboard - Asus Striker Extreme
    Memory - 4 x 1gb Corsair XMS 2
Hard Drive - 500gb Samsung Spinpoint
PSU - 620W Corsair HX Modular

    Would greatly appreciate any advice!

    Many thanks

    Ash

Re: Do I need more power?

I'd have the Q6600 instead of the E6850.

And personally i'd get the Abit 680i motherboard. It's very nice and doesn't have some of the RAM issues the asus has.

the 620W is capable of running SLi GTX's so it's ok but i'd imagine you would be close to the limits.

What case and HSF have you got/chosen?

Re: Do I need more power?

    Thanks for the help !

I'm not sure about quad core. If I'm honest I've just not kept as up to date as I should. I built abotu 15 machines last year and knew everything about every componant on the market but just have not kept myself up to date! Two people have asked me for systems this week and I find myself thinking WHO WHAT WHEN!?

    Ahem.

So the quad core is a better bet that Dual Core then?

    Noted!

Will put an Arctic freezer pro on it. And an Antec P180.

    Sound ok?

The Q6600 owns the E6850 hands down. HSF & case is all good.

    Sweet, thanks guys.

    CPU - Intel Q6600 Core 2 Quad 2.4ghz
    Graphics Card 1 - 768mb ScanFX 8800 GTX
    Graphics Card 2 - 768mb ScanFX 8800 GTX
    Motherboard - Abit IN9

Hard Drive - 500gb Samsung Spinpoint
PSU - 620W Corsair HX Modular
    Case - Antec P180
DVD Drive - Samsung SH Light Scribe
    Card reader - Silverstone SST
    Windows - Home Vista Premium
Heat Sink - Arctic Freezer Pro

Good machine? Bit worried about the PSU.

Could anyone suggest a slightly bigger one? What about the Hiper Power Type R Modular 730w? I had zero problems with my old 580w one.

PSU is fine. You might want to consider the newer P182 though, it's *much* easier to do cabling than the old P180 (unless you already have it that is). Looks like a good build overall.

    Done! 182 it is.

Any changes you'd suggest? Are the cards ok? To be honest I just went for the cheapest 8800 GTX's on Scan but I wouldn't mind spending a bit more for better performance?

Naw, there's little in the difference between them, they're all based off the same reference design, some may come pre-overclocked but you can do that yourself. There's nothing else I'd change there really.

if you're running stock the freezer pro is fine if you want to do an overclock (they will go to 3.4GHz quite nicely) then consider one of the bigger towers, thermalright 120 extreme, scythe ninja (my favourite as it's next to silent)

I think it was in the Hexus review (could be wrong though) that the Scythe Mine outperformed the Scythe Ninja. Certainly read it somewhere.

Sorry...It was versus the Scythe Infinity.
Look here: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=8757&page=1 for a BIG Hexus review.

Re: Do I need more power?

Ninja wasn't in the review but the mine does perform very well.

I'd only recommended what I know, i've had two ninja's and were both perfect for cooling and noise.
