    Memory

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=126737
Got one gig of this memory was wondering is it worth me buying another gig or spending more and buying 2 gig of 800 ram? im trying to figure out if there is much difference.

    Re: Memory

Given that your CPU is at stock speeds, you don't need faster RAM. You only need 533MHz RAM to match 1:1 to your processor, you have 667 and 800 would be overkill, unless you are overclocking or upgrading your CPU

    Re: Memory

    What's your FSB set to? 667 ram = 333FSB, 800 ram = 400FSB (max).

That really determines what RAM to get I'd say.

I think your processor has an 8x multi (8x 233 = 1.83Ghz), so with 333 fsb you'd only be able to get to 2.66Ghz. With 400 fsb you could (potentially) get 3.2 Ghz.

But that would be quite an OC I think, so may not be realistic.

However, adding 2GB of any speed would be better than 1GB for overall performance.

multi is 7, and i can only get ram to run at 675 just tried 800 for crashing.
and at mo i can overclock unlinked and cpu is at 2.33

    Re: Memory

Is your 1gb made up of 1 or 2 sticks? DDR2 is surprisingly cheap now (in Jan 2gb DDR2 800 was ~£130) so if you want to OC your CPU further then go for the upgrade

    Re: Memory

Of course you're going to need to invest in some better cooling (if you still have the stock cooler), otherwise whatever ram you get you won't get much further than the 2.33

Dumdum me - it's 266 fsb as normal, rather then 233. So you are running your FSB at 333 to get 2.33Ghz? Worth looking at slackening the timings on the ram as well. For me, changing from 4-4-4-12 to 5-5-5-18 got me over 333 FSB

Of course, you didn't ask this. If you want to go further, get 2gb of pc6400. if not, then 1gb of PC5300
