    Re: new pc

I think you should ask yourself if you're current pc is struggling because it isn't a bad spec really.

The graphics card will certainly get you a fair bit of cash if you want to sell it.

    Re: new pc

the problem me and my mate found with Dirt was the sound not the graphics.

Put the sound quality on low and the frame rate should jump up.

    Re: new pc

Question - if you upgrading ! why go for an older DX9 Card ?
Spend a little more and get a DX10 card even if you don't have Vista at the moment it will future proof it a little and not cost too much more depending on what card you go for.

Because decent DX10 cards cost more money and 8600 GTS is rubbish (even though its DX10) and expensive compared to a x1950 pro or an XT (which costs about the same)

    Re: new pc

Presumably you're changing motherboards as well as the DDR2 ram is unlikely to work in a board designed for DDR

Not to mention the X1950 you're getting is *probably* a PCI-e version, and again, you can't mix AGP and PCI-E

(otherwise I'd have upgraded my PC a long long time ago!)

I agree. Doesn't seem worth the effort tbh. The difference between the 2 PCs gaming wise will be negligible.

Save more and get a better vga card. Once you've got the money for that, then change the CPU, mobo and RAM at the same time. For now, I'd leave it as is.

The graphics card will certainly get you a fair bit of cash if you want to sell it
My old AGP system had a Gainward Bliss 7800GS+ in it. It was a truelt fantastic card a year ago. The 'last dance' for AGP really.

I sold it on Fleabay for £180
Unfortunately, you can pick them up new for £130 now. Still should go for £100ish though and a good lump towards a new card tbh

lol, you guys! Have you really forgotten what a pile of trot the P4 was? That link shows a 4300 beating a P4D soundly, and when overclocked the 4300 positively rips the P4's heatspreader off and spits down its FSB

You're in the same position as me. I think I'll do what s_kinton suggests and get a new vid card around christmas then look to move to ddr2 etc later next year.

cpu/mobo/ram (and maybe gfx) lasting 2+ years is a pretty good effort.
