Question Hard To Explain But Please Suggest...

basically... This will probably come out wrong so I'll try and break it down as easy as possible...
I currently have to 320gb WD sata drives being used in my desktop rig via sata pci card...
I'm selling this rig so no more desktop... I'm replacing with a Laptop...
What I want to do is construct/buy some kind of enclosure to house the 2 sata drives and be able to plug them into my Laptop via 2 USB cables? I'm sure that you can just buy 2 Internal -> External adaptors right? but are these suitable for 24/7 use when the laptops left on 24/7 beside them downloading/rendering/and any other task onto these drives.
will it drain the Laptop and make it over heat?
I want to just be able to come home bang connect the Laptop to the drives and away i go accessing my files...
Is it as simple as 2 sata->external hard drive enclosures? or any thing better you can recommend?and NO I do NOT want to RAID/mirror them to one drive image etc etc...
    cheers.

    couple of these then
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=672065

you can get expresscard/PCMCIA cards which have sata ports on if you want to do it that way.

Connecting the drives externally won't have any detremental effect on the laptop. Any drive case will have its own power supply so there it no extra strain on the battery/power brick for the laptop.

I have a couple of these:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=465786

They work well. Very useful as they can take a SATA or IDE drive and connect with either USB2 or eSATA (one SATA drives can connect with eSATA, it doesn't convert IDE to SATA). I also have a ExpressCard with two eSATA ports. I ended up geting mine from Play.com (http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/-/667/874...e=3471558f2570) as i needed it quickly. You can get them on eBay cheaper, but delivery times from Hong Kong are a pain.

I also have a two port SATA PCMCIA cardfor my old laptop. Can't remember where i got that one from.

Actually, it isn't epensive at all. If you look at the external enclosuresthat can take two drives, they are a lot more than two of the Akasa or IcyBox enclosures.

    Actually here:
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=548993

It isn't a lot more that two Akasa boxes, but it is a bit.

Re: Hard To Explain But Please Suggest...

You might find cheaper on ebay yeah. Although it might be worth you getting a nice new one. Cause the cheapo ones can be a bit noisy, and the better ones can be as quiet as the disk itself. Also if its an old one, it might have a gunked up fan.

    i don't know, why don't you look?

TO be honest i hate eBay these days and only turn to it as a last resort. It doesn't help that i've had my PayPal account broken into and my credit card charged. I got it all sorted out but it's the only time i've ever had card fraud, so i avoud PayPal as much as possible.

Re: Hard To Explain But Please Suggest...

Those are a little strange. They connect via ethernet, but are not a proper NAS device. You need to install software on each PC connecting to it

You can get a two drive USB case for less, or a proper two drive NAS box for the same. Personally they are a bit pointless.
