E4300 Upgrade?
Ok so basically I am currently running the following
E4300 @ 2.7GHz
Corsair PC2 6400 5-5-5-12 2x1GB
BFG 8800GTS 320mb
Asus P5B-Deluxe WIFI
Is it worth upgrading the CPU to a E6750 and clock that as well? Or will the performance be slightly or even non noticeable?
Open to any ideas which you guys/gals may have.
Cheers

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
I've gone from an E4300 (at 3.06) to a Q6600 (at 3.2). Well worth it.
Going from an E4300 to any other dual core is not likely to yield a massive difference. The only (at this point) sensible upgrade is to Quad Core.

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
You won't see the difference I don't think. I rarely see the difference between 2.4 and 3.4GHZ on my E6600..

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
Wouldn't you need to upgrade motherboard if you got the newer C2D they run at 1333. I have a similar setup to you with my E4300 clocked to 3.06Mhz and Abit AB9 Quad GT. If you were going to upgrade may be a Q6600 is best will fit in your board nicely. If its for games upgrade that 8800GTS for a GTX would see more improvement over a CPU upgrade, unless somebody thinks I'm wrong.

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
The P5B's, especially the later one's just needed a bios flash to accept 1333mhz native's I believe.
My P5B-E plus came with a 1333mhz support sticker, so I assume it does the job.

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
Nah you'll only end up with a minor speed boost from a E6750, dont go drinking this weekend, and spend the extra cash on a Q6600.

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
Well by the sounds of it, sounds like its a better bet to go for a Q6600. But even though the other cores don't really get much use, is there much point in getting one? I mean if not ill put the money aside and hold out for a gfx card or something.
Thanks for all your input so far guys :)

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
Well looking at your specs, I'm assuming you're a gamer. Over the next few months A lot of new games are coming with quad core support, crysis, UT3(and all the games based off the new Unreal 3 engine, more than a few), plus a few older games like Sup Comm. Then again all these games will run fine on your E4300, and you might want to spend it on graphics.
Or not spend it on the PC at all if the performance suits you right now now if I'm allowed to suggest that :P

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
This is where the tough choice comes into play. Im not sure what I want really. Saying that I should probably hold off. But I feel like my PC could use a performance increase of some sort, just don't know where to throw some of the cold hard though.
Do you think the Quads are going to be having a price drop in the near future or are they pretty much staying as they are right now?

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
If the machine is OKish, then I'd wait. The new range of processors are arriving in the new year. Also, it is likely that NVidia will be introducing some new kit as well, or repositioning / repricing their existing lines.
If you really want to spend some money, then I think a Q6600 would probably give the best long term value.

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
What kind of frame rates do you get on what resolution display- if games are your thing?

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
Do you really need to upgrade?
The system you have there will run everything great anyway.
Note:
2gb extra of memory wouldnt go amiss though

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
only if he is running xp or vista 64

Re: E4300 Upgrade?
Framerates which I get in games are fine. Except for UT3 though which I guess could use a little bit of attention.
I am getting the feeling though waiting is my best option at the moment.
I was thinking of going the whole 4GB RAM route but didn't really think it would make a whole load of difference.
Ill look into the Quads though, see if there is enough performance increase for myself. If so I may give that a go.
Thanks guys, always nice to have the opinions of others :D
