    Cool New speakers, new sound card

    Next week i am looking to buy these speakers; Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

    I am also looking to get a new sound card.(current sound card is commando one)

    Ones I have seen are;

    and this Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK

    I am not really sure what I should be getting; I don't know if I need the SPDIF connection, what does seem important is to have EAX 5.0 which seems to be cool for games?

    Re: New speakers, new sound card

    The X-Plosion doesn't support EAX above 2, but in Vista there is no EAX, and the Dolby Digital Live or DTS output, when paired with those speakers, will give you excellent 5.1 sound in gaming and general use.

    I have an X-Plosion with a Videologic DigiTheatre DTS setup (£50 from eBay! My best win ever!) and after a couple of initial setup problems with my last rig (needed to move it to a different PCI slot), it's been brilliant ever since. £60 for an X-Plosion is a good price, too.

    The Auzentech X-Fi Prelude does not yet have the DTS/Dolby Digital Live support, but it is promised in future driver updates. Right now, it's just an X-Fi, which would be fine for more basic speaker setups, but is a waste of those great speakers you're getting.

    So you think the X-Plosion would be the smart buy?

    Re: New speakers, new sound card

    I was looking at those speakers a few days ago.

    Not wanting to take custom away from Scan but Amazon have them in stock (4 as I type) for £194 - Amazon.co.uk: Logitech Z5500 Digital PC Multimedia Home Theatre Speaker System - 505 Watt (Total): Electronics & Photo

    I... would.... yeah. But I'm always entirely comfortable eBaying stuff if I want to upgrade a couple of months later, and recouping almost all of what I paid. If that Auzentech X-Fi turns into an amazing card in Q1 2008, would you be happy plopping the X-Plosion on eBay and getting £50-odd for it?

    Actually, I've just had a look around, and £60 is a really good price for it. Don't forget the free Scan shipping, and go for it!

    I have an X-Plosion hooked up to an av receiver and 5.1 speakers via optical and let me tell you it is an awsome soundcard in DTS or DDL yeah it may not have EAX 5.0 but your not missing out. Plus movies sound amazing on it.
