    Question When's the best time??

I know in Computer Building terms theres never a perfect time to build a rig as theres always new stuff coming out-but, some times are better than others. Right now there are DX 10.1 Cards on the Horizon.

    When will they be out?

Is Christmas and alright time to try building a £700-£800 Gaming Rig?

Or is it better to wait till some time early next year?

    Re: When's the best time??

I'm leaning towards a new build early next year. Intel's new chips will be out then and I'm hoping for a graphics card as powerful as a 8800gtx without the insane power requirement. DDR2 ram prices seem to be stable and cheap atm and I don't think that will change in the next couple of months either.

I'd be interested to hear other peoples views too.

There's never a perfect time, the best time IMO is just after a major release of new technology and get the previous generation stuff at better prices

Im not sure about the ram situation, I think its gonna creep up again as we edge closer and closer to xmas, id say get the ram now, its dirt cheap.

The later you leave it, the more you'll get for your money... so yeah, early next year should be better than christmas. Dunno by how much though...

As always, if you need something now, buy it, as change is the only certainty.

Right now I'd hold off and wait for Penryn though, which will start to roll out soon, but probably only really be avialable early next year.

    Re: When's the best time??

My concern is RAM. DDR2 is looking so cheap compared to DDR right now that it would not make sense for me to add more DDR RAM to my setup. Yet going DDR2 would mean new mobo and CPU. Which to be perfectly honest, I am still happy with.

According to recent reports, RAM will remain at its current low price for the remainder of 2007, at a minimum.

    Re: When's the best time??

I would wait til early next year so when the latest chips are out the current chips will be cheaper. RAM normally goes up before Christmas due to system builders buying lots of it but if you wait til next year then this shouldn't be a concern but if in doubt buy it now and get the rest of the system next year.
