After a hexus review a while back, the best rated cooler ended up with the ThermalTake BigTyp 120 VX. I think i will get one of these unless you guys reckon there is better performance to be had for a cheaper price
(£30)
There's no doubt it's a good cooler but I prefer tower coolers make more sense to me in terms of clean air flow. Some face down coolers also have the problem of heating the chipset rather than cooling it which they claim although I don't the the big typhoon is one of those.
My favourite cooler is the Scythe Ninja rev B. It's designed to work with a very low speed fan and gives fantastic results, close to that of the thermalright extreme. With a higher speed fan it pretty much matches the extreme clock for clock.
I insist on silence in my pc now and the ninja aids that no end.
I would use on the following,
Scythe Ninja (my favourite)
Thermalright Extreme (best cooling available)
Scythe mini or infinity
Big Typhoon (is good so I wont count it out)
Tuniq Tower (bloomin MASSIVE)
Thermalright Ultima 90

Scythe Mine.
Hardly anything in it and less than £25 (alot lighter aswell than any of the other high performance coolers).
Computer hardware and software at amazing prices, available online from Scan Computers UK
I can't speak high enough of this cooler. It really is fantastic.

1 year ago when I joined I was reading about so much and Scythe Miné was the best cooler for 939/775. I took a bit long to buy my pc stuff though and by that time the Thermalright Ultra was the King Kong. But that HeXus review shows it a bit different. Since your going with a Intel setup its fine to get the Miné or Thermalright. Ultra or Extreme whichever tickles your fancy .
Ultra can't be used on AM2 without a bolt thru kit you'd (I) need to buy. Extreme has everything ready. The Miné has some problems on AM2 boards so AM2 people make sure you check the site for info on that.
Check the price difference between that big typhoon and the thermalright. Theres a thread about fans and stuff and it seems those Yate Loons are the best I think ( from what was said in that thread )
I've got an Antec Fan on mine and it does the job. Although I might get that 1600rpm s-flex fan from scan.
What did it for me in the end, besides the good reviews, was the fact that i didnt need to take out my motherboard to fit it.
It has the 'push pins' so took 10 mins and all was done.
Well 20 mins...i was a bit drunk and put it on the wrong way do the fan was pointing down.
I got up the next morning, switched it on and the temps werent waht i expected. Pointed the fan at the exhaust fan and all went very well.
Never goes over 38 degrees load with a moderate O/C (32%
The Miné interested me because of the lower profile, but going by a collection of reviews, it appears to be a very competent HSF, but rarely as good as seen in the Hexus roundup compared to the best towers. I'd be interested in a side by side comparison of the Ultima 90i and the Miné.
Going off the Anandtech (couple of other side by side comparison reviews) review of Ultima-90. It's on a par and beats all the large coolers, including the Tuniq Tower. I've measured my Ultima-90 next to the Scythe Mine size wise and it's roughly half the size. The only thing the Mine has going for it over the Ultima-90 is it's clip on.
Edit: and I'm talking width/depth as well as height when I say 'roughly' half the size.

On frostytech the ultra is top on intel and amd ones. but theres so much deviation. hexus says the ultra's crap, anandtech says its the best, this and that. it's hard to really choose now.
the ultra is widely accepted as the best as long as it has a fairly high power fan on it.
It's performance drops off significantly with lower power fans. My mate has one and its around 7 or more degree's difference between a coolermaster LED and akasa LED fan
yea, at anandtech they used the scythe s-flex 1600rpm fans for the testing. dunno what hexus used.
