If you don't want SLI how about a P35 or X38?
DDR2 or DDR3?
Asus Maximus Formula SE
thanks will look at both.

Hi just another one i will be wanting to overclock i have ddr 2 ram but will move to DDR 3 if i must. whats the best chipset at the moment? is it the 680 or the x38?
or another one all together?

unless you need multi-GPU P35.
What's wrong with your DS3 though?
bah dont get me started on the ds3! i made an error buying it!
I reckon it is dodgy workmanship scan reckon it is dodgy installation. we will just leave it at that.
So P35 any flavour in particular?
i am now contemplating getting a DDR 3 setup for a bit of future proofing

asus p5k premium or gigabyte p35-ds3r imo
Asus P5K-E or Abit p35.
thanks for this info fellas much appreciated. one last thing, if i said what is the current best board on the market for overclocking a quad core with water cooling and overclocking my 8800. the answer would be.......(socket 775)

The problem is that there are lots of good mobos, certainly on P35 (X38 is still immature imo).
abit, Asus, DFI, Gigabyte (although you may not want to go there ) & MSI all have strong contenders & it's down to personal preferences as to features, layout, budget etc.
Ok i have found 2 potentials both come in at the £100 mark.
first of all is:
Asus P5k-E Wifi AP
the other
Asus Commando Quad Core i965.
What do you guys think is the best one here? bearing in mind my main aim is games and overclocking on water.

The P5K-E as i think it is the better overclocker, but i'm sure someone will correct me if i am wrong.
you don't want a Commando, ask Clunk ...
There's no real point going P965 at this point and there are so many threads about problems with the commando that it seems one of the most problematic p965 boards anyway. Go P35, P5k-e or dlx if you're going for a lot of overclocking.
