    Arctic Silver

    Hi all,

I got my Q6600 now, with the Asus Maximus Formula SE
Currently running on a Freezer 7 HSF, but I'm going to watercool it.
Going to get the Swiftech H2O 120 Compact, together with Feser One - F1 - Cooling Fluid (no mixing )

    Now, the question is.
    Should I go for:

Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound or
    Arctic CERAMIQUE

Which one is better for a watercooling setup for a Q6600?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: Arctic Silver

both are really good, you shouldnt need to worry about either of them.

More important is how much you put on and how flat the surfaces are. if you want the best then you should lap the water block down to the finest sandpaper you can get, 1600 or 2400. though start with 600 to see how flat it is and work your way up.

then if your brave do the same for the top of the cpu! that'll drop temp upto 10degrees together!

I don't think it makes much of a difference these days especially with such a good cooler attached and from what I've seen the 120 has Swiftech's usual quality job on the base. As always it's more important to apply the stuff correctly I hope you have good results with that cooler I'm hoping to buy one soon myself

You can use Ceramique on RAMsinks, too. It's non-conductive and tastes* great.

*Don't eat it as it will kill you.

MX-2 is supposed to be a good paste also, no idea what it tastes like though

    Re: Arctic Silver

I've used the older MX-1 and Ceramique - both good IMO.

I couldn't get the hang of spreading Arctic Silver (half a grain size) over a cpu core.

I use Arctic Silver 5 and it's great, but really, I think either are perfectly fine. How you apply it will make much more difference
