    Soundstorm Settings

Just wondered which settings people use, as im not really sure which settings are best for my set up.

I've got 5.1 surround sound speakers, so which boxes should i have checked within the options?

Depends on whether your speakers have an external decoder (therefore digital) or whether they are analogue - how do they interface with the soundcard connectors at the back of the PC?

If you are using a digital connection - e.g. optical (on Abit NF7-S) or coax (on
Asus A7N-Deluxe) then you will have just one lead and should leave just the "Digital out" checkbox checked. Otherwise have the analogue checked and leave the digital unchecked.

With respect to the other boxes - I tend to leave "create centre channel" off as I'm using digital out and generally the program which is creating the sound stream (e.g. game or DVD) has a centre channel already as it's 5.1. You will, most likely, want to have Dolby Digital Encoding set to on as well

I've got the abit NF7-s and the speakers are creative 5300

Create centre channel doesnt use the centre channel anyway, it feed it through the two front speakers.

Err - I think you'll find it does actually setup a center channel from the two stereo channels

Digital - Just set to 'Dolby Digital Encoding' and Digital output, the others can be unchecked.

Analog - Click Analog out, and have all the other boxes unchecked. For MP3 usage I use create center channel but for DVDs, games etc. you want it unchecked

Personally i used to set it up so that the sound comes outta all 5.1 speakers. IIRC all the bottm boxes were ticked to do this. sounded better to me.

I ses the digital out now so I'm not too sure (on a NF7-S btw)

I would have thought you would need to plug all 3 outputs into the decoder, otherwise the decoder is only getting the front signals, which is what you said you are receiving.

If you have an external decoder then you should be outputting by Coax on that board - this means you need a coax lead and you need to plug it into the dedicated Digital Out (coax) connector on the card/board - which is not the headphone/speaker/mike connectors.

If you use coax out then so long as your decoder has coax in (almost all do) then you need only check the box "digital output" in the SS driver settings.

I figured it, i had digital output checked, which was causing it to not do rear sound, anyway, unchecked that now and its fine.
