    New Mobo Chipsets

I've been around the forums for a few months now and have been planning to build myself a new computer. I've decided that I will build it around the beginning of next year/just after Christmas.

I've been keeping prety well up-to date with all the Mobos and Chipsets but recently I've got a bit confused.

I'm planning on building a gamin rig and I want one of the best Mobos there is, possibly supporting PCI 2.0. What chipsets should I be looking out for now/ in the next few months?

I can't think of anything else coming for a while now.

X38 is the best board to go for it you want PCIe 2.0 lanes.

You also get 1600mhz FSB support that way.

Intel -wise X48 (X38 on steroids) is due turn of the year.
nVidia 780i SLI (680i SLI with a chip to add PCI-E 2.0) is due by then too afaik.

AMD has new chipsets due (19th Nov. launch I believe)

    all sounds interesting.

X38..on sterioids.. they are ugly enough.. i can't imagine what it will look like if they keep growing out of themselves lol.

Is that all the 780i will offer further to the 680i? Bit weak really.

If I'm not interested in SLI is it maybe better to go for the X48?

    Isn't the X48 DDR3 only?

    Re: New Mobo Chipsets

DDR2 isn't officially supported on X48 but rumour is that at least Gigabyte will do an X48 with DDR2.
