I want a new case that I can carry!

Ok, my P180 is just way too heavy to continue taking to LANs, it really hurts! So I need something much lighter.

    Antec p180:
    - Net:31.00lb / 14.00kg
    - Gross: 36.00lb / 16.33kg

I'm assuming (maybe wrongly) these are defined as without a system and with a system? That's ripped straight from Antec's website btw:

I also would like handles and for it to look good. That new coolermaster cosmos looks right, looks easy to carry - but weighs practically the same!!

I like the look of the lian li pc 7 (and all it's variants), but there's so many lian lis I'm not sure which one is the right / best one. I'm not planning on watercooling, because I can't afford it, vbut I want it to be quitely aircooled. So large slow rotating 120s are great. My PSU doesn't act as an exhaust - Antec Neo HE 550 - it's got 2 80mm fans but they're used for cooling the unit down (it does take air from inside the case), but it's not got high CFM and so that also needs to be taken into consideration.

Bear in mind, I'm small and want to be able to carry it! I've got 4 hard drives in at the moment although this could change. Looking nice is a plus but functionality is more important to me atm.

I thought about posting this in the Lian Li forum for some expert advice on different models, but it appears there are no mods there? And anyway, I'm not closing my eyes to other manufacturers. Want something quite light and nice. Something that's easy!

Budget no more than £120 but less is better!

    Coolermaster Ammo 533 £58

Not the bigest cases but seems ok, with a built in handle and covers on the power&reset buttons so no one can clame to of accendently pressed them

Re: I want a new case that I can carry!

This might not be for you but the most innovative small case i've seen in a while is this one

    Lian Li PC-A05B Aluminium Midi-Tower - Black

Full ATX support in a case which should be mATX

    now..this comes at a price.

The PSU is mounted at the front and thus the air flow is directed from the back to the front.

The motherboard is mounted upside down so graphics cards have a tendancy to reuse their hot air..but there is an accersory 120mm fan holder to blow directly on them curing this problem.

heres a pic of the inside with the extra fan for the grpahics card (top right)

    and the full review
    Lian-Li PC-A05 Mid-Tower Case - Articles / Reviews | TheTechLounge

my mate had an ammo..It's good for bashing about but pretty ugly.

I'd go for a Lian Li V600 if I wanted small and feature packed. It's not much taller than an ATX motherboard.

Re: I want a new case that I can carry!

Size, well as long as it's reasonable - weight is the killer. Full towers (like 700 x 500 x 210 or whatever) are too big really. I've seen the PC-A05 main problem with it I see is airflow is going to be sacrificed - with my 8800gts there's a nice pocket to trap very warm air just above it with no escape route.

Looking at the ammo - that looks my kind of thing.

Except it's 10kg on it's own which is still quite heavy really

Re: I want a new case that I can carry!

The PC-a05 Shouldn't be too much of a heat trap, as the 8800gts feeds out of the back of the card through a 2nd slot.

but if you're that worried then the standard Lian li PC-7b Plus is only N.W./G.W. 5.5Kg/6.8Kg
    Lian Li Industrial Co., Ltd.
    Only £55 at ebuyer

Or some cheap Value case, a drimmel and some mesh

That's why I suggested the V600, it has an upside down design and throws hot air out the side of the case with a 120mm fan sitting just above the primary PCIe slot. Check it out on their website.

Re: I want a new case that I can carry!

The V1000 has more airflow and space around the CPU and takes another 3hdds, but is a good 6 inches or more higher and about £45 more expensive I think.

Ah brilliant, thanks for that clarification.

I mean, the weight of the system is a constant.

    4 HDD = 2.5 kg
    cpu cooler = 0.5kg
    motherboard = 1.25kg
    optical drive = 750g
    psu = 2.75kg
    graphics card = 1kg
various other bits (add in cards, memory, cables, and so on) = 750g

So, very very roughly, my system weighs just under 10 kilos. Now, if we're comparing the lighter cases vs the heavier cases (4.9kg pc7) - that's 15kg in total. My current case, makes that 24kg! That's 60% extra. Again, using figures roughly. To put that in perspective, my current system is what special forces get laden up with when they do their entrance tests. (according to google)
