    ATX PSU with -5V?

There's a guy at work that has a faulty PSU in his system, but he's using some peripheral inside it that apparently needs -5v to work properly. However, most PSUs I've come across don't seem to have -5v any more.

Anyone got any ideas? It doesn't need to be a big name manufacturer, just something with -5v.

    Re: ATX PSU with -5V?

-5V was only ever used for ISA based devices IIRC. If its not a ISA based one, it shouldn't be using -5V.

If for some strange reason it is, you need to look for a pre-ATX12v 1.3 spec PSU. It wasn't actually part of the 1.3spec that it must be removed, just that it could be, so you may find a 1.3spec based one that has it
Best way is to look at the uni if you can

Yep - it's got 3 ISA cards in. It's for our Visual Immersion suite that controls 3 projectors to make a chuffin' great big wide screen.

If anyone can let me know where I can get a 400w+ ATX 1.2 or below PSU from to get here by tomorrow, I'll love you in the face. It's currently running off an old 235W PSU I stole out of an old Tiny Pentium 2 system, but I don't really trust it :-S

    Re: ATX PSU with -5V?

    Casecom 500W 12cm Fan - 20+4pin, ATX12v, 4x Molex - Retail Box - Ebuyer and another casecom 500w
at thoes prices how long it'll run before going bang???

The Silverpower 350w and 400w were suposed to be very good and had -5v not easy to find as I think they've stoped makeing them.

EDIT: I found one at Kustom pc
    Kustom PCs SilverPower 400w 12cm Fan SP-400-2C £27.50
Looks like it's the wrong model you'd have to check with Kustom pc as to if it has the -5v

the data steet for it is Here (pdf)

EDIT: Scan have the same model in stock as well, SP-400-2C so could ask them if it has the -5v

    Re: ATX PSU with -5V?

you could look for a second hand server supply that would allow for a -5v rail

    Re: ATX PSU with -5V?

'Negative' DC voltages were pointless and stupid to begin with (DC voltages are always positively changed, 'negative' DC voltages are just wired the wrong way), it's a deficiency that's been fixed since ATX 2.x iirc.

Have a look around fleabay, there's usually old crap like this strewn around it.

    ++

An old PSU from a Dual Slot 2 motherboard would have enough welly.

Pob255 - Cheers for that, I've got that 500w casecom one on order. Sadly we can't buy off ebay because it needs to be bought through work, but massive thanks to all that posted suggestions and help.
