One thing - I would save the cash and go for the 8800GT as its only just behind GTX but for half the price. Where are you purchasing most of these components?

Most of these are from Scan and OCUK, I have considered the GT, however i have my reservations, i will read a few more reviews and decide tomorrow before i buy.

Streetster, thanks for the link, but i don't fancy a refurb monitor, and i will be using Ubuntu/XP dual boot, i don't want to tarnish my lovely new PC with vista just yet.

Thanks to both for your input.

Sharkoon Fans seem expensive unless you've got the qty wrong?

Scan sell them for £6.90 each.

Good shout on vista, im still on xp

Regarding that monitor.. i'll quote from the website:

"All Stock Is Refurbished Unless Stated............."

"24" New Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP Widescreen LCD (Midnight Grey). 3 Year Warranty REV A04"

(emphasis added)... although I didnt realise it was £280 + vat = £329, but still almost £100 cheaper

    Re: Price Check - Suggestions

A sharkoon golf ball won't actually fit in the bottom-front position of the P182 if that is where it's destined for.

You also might have issues if you try and use it on the end of the upper HDD cage (graphics cooling) as the GTX is too long.

    1. Wouldnt be that great with a 24" monitor as high settings.
    2. Its a bit strong to say its 'just behind a GTX'. The GTX is very superior to it.

If your budget allows, go for the GTX.

Thanks Mike, I will hold of on the fans until i know what will fit. I did have the quantity wrong btw, that price was for 4 not 2.

Streetster, it was the WFP-HC i quoted, so actually only £30 in it. Still not bad though if it is indeed new.

As nice as the ACf7p is you might want to consider something better, a Scythe mine or ninja plus are good, thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme and coolermaster big typhoon are rated as some of the best.

If you want to keep it quiet then a cooler with a 120mm fan is a must.

    Re: Price Check - Suggestions

I will probably go for a moderate OC of 3Ghz, which should be fine on the ACF7, in the future when i need to squeeze more life out of it i will consider another HSF. Any think 3Ghz is not realistic with this HSF, and my setup. I have ordered already BTW, but interested to know.

In response to 1 AND 2 - GT vs GTX.

OcUK is a great forum for hearing the latest news and has good conversation regarding hardware. There are some great enthusiasts over there. I don't know what that comment is based on... seems to be opinion to me just like the "GTX is very superior to it" rubbish.

So Pete as I said, if you want to save half the money spent on a GTX then go for the GT as the graphs in the above link show that it can cope with the hi resolutions just like the GTX.

    EDIT:

More graphs to show the GT is just underneath the GTX:

    Re: Price Check - Suggestions

Thank you for the links regarding GT vs GTX, the GT does indeed look like a great card, that said i have still gone for the GTX, here's why:

    - Each time i build a new machine i try and buy the best bits i can afford, without going into silly money, i.e QX6850, 8800 Ultra etc.. So i can hold of upgrading again for as long as possible

    - That 1st review was based on the reference model 8800GTX, 575mhz clock, 1.8mhz mem, and GT reference model, so the OC2 i have ordered has a little bit more juice thrown in, this goes back to longevity etc.

    - The GTX will give better consistent framerates at 1920 x 1200

    - I have already ordered the GTX

    - I could afford it within my budget, and would show more gains spent on the Gfx card than any other component.

NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Performance Preview
    Read your review again.
The GT isnt going to cope at with a 24" monitor.
Use your noddle........the GTX is twice the price. Do you REALLY think the GT is nearly as good.
    Course its not.
    Good but not that good.

As for saying OCUK is a 'great forum'. Well..............nuff said
