    A8N-SLI Premium - Northbridge Temps

Main computer has an Asus A8N-SLI Premium and the heatpipe cooler isn't doing a good job IMO.

Temps as I type this (comp is always on idle) are -

    CPU 36C (X2 4200 S939 + fanless Ninja)
    Mobo 39C

Would I be better off removing the heatpipe cooler and installing a Zalman passive cooler on the Northbridge (I would stick a quiet fan near the heatsink to cool it)?

I assume the other part of the heatpipe cooler sits on some Mosfets? If correct, could I get away with installing some GPU RAM Sinks on these?

Recently, I removed the heatpipe cooler and applied some MX1, I think the temps decreased a degree or two only

    Or am I just paranoid?

Re: A8N-SLI Premium - Northbridge Temps

Mine hovered between 40-45 when I had one, doubt 39c is going to cause a problem. Try putting a fan on the ninja, leave it on low just to shift some of the heat build up in the area.

EDIT: actually if it's always idle, then that's fine. Northbridges are quite hot.

Re: A8N-SLI Premium - Northbridge Temps

I haven't directed a fan at the Northbridge as there are no fins to cool

As the setup is in a P180, I've stuck a 120mm in the top blowing down instead of exhausting hot air, I think this makes a slight difference.

I did have a fan on the Ninja at one point but it didn't make any difference IIRC. Even tried using a 140mm fan in the setup to see if air could reach the top part of the heatpipe - no luck.

Re: A8N-SLI Premium - Northbridge Temps

I'd be very happy with those temps on mine (actually that's about what I think mine is right now).

Having said that I have no overclocking going on.

Motherboard sensor does not mean MCP/Northbridge sensor, try Everest to find MCP/Northbridge temps.

    Or am I just paranoid?
Its good to care about your temps but tbh I think you're fine.

Re: A8N-SLI Premium - Northbridge Temps

I think I may have a solution (thank God)

I've installed a 80mm fan (7v) pointing towards the Northbridge, this reduced temps by about 5C within a minute or two (thank God again).

Thank you all for your advice.

Re: A8N-SLI Premium - Northbridge Temps

Mine hovers around 35-39C.. nothing major really.. and I have almost perfect airflow in my case..

Your Athlon does pretty low temp.. where did you get that reading? Core Temp?..

I get 35C from those motherboard diodes but as soon as I chuck in Core Temp, temps seems to be 39Cish idle..

Load temps tho the diode sees only mid 40s while my core 2 hit 59C already.. and core 1 is anywhere BUT 45C.. they're around 53ish..

Not to say the higher temps are better to go by, but they seems reasonable to me as my Infinity feels rather warm..
    Me want Ultrabook

I'd like to think I've got good airflow in the modded P180 I have -

2 front sections covering the filters have been removed as per MikeC's advice on spcr.com - silentpcreview.com | View topic - P180/182/190 Intake Airflow Restriction: A simple solution
Top fan blowing down to cool the Ninja, rear fan exhausting, no front fan.

CPU reading is from Asus Probe and I believe it's same in the BIOS. Currently CPU is 41C so I'll remove the top fan and stick it on the Ninja. Northbridge is now at 31C (thank God again)

Mine is roasting too. I am not sure why, but Asus Probe claims that it is consistently about 5C less than my overclocked CPU. In contrast, my HD is about 28-38 (depending on drive).

Speedfan won't display the HD temp. Not sure if having it in a Scythe Quietbox makes a difference
