RAM sticks (maybe just one) has errors from memtest
Hey guys,
So, the dreaded has happened. One (maybe even both :o ) of my ram sticks produced errors in memtest. I say one because it gave an error on test 5, at the 2000+ mb

What I wanted to know is:
1) What do these errors mean?
2) Will taking out 1 stick and running memtest again be able to show me which stick?
3) Will I have to send both sticks back to supplier if only one is faulty (its still under warranty, from OCuK)
Re: RAM sticks (maybe just one) has errors from memtest
Testing out one stick at a time will identify the faulty stick. If the sticks were bought as a pair, you may have to return both, but check with OCUK.
Basically the test shows that the data being read from that particular memory location is not the same as that written to it.

ah right, ok peterb, thanks :)
Looks like I may need to purchase some new ram as I dont really have time to be out of a PC right now XD
Re: RAM sticks (maybe just one) has errors from memtest
Sometimes the contacts just stop contacting (oxidation, thermal movement, whatever). Try unplugging the machine, taking the RAM out, put the RAM back in with a bit of a wiggle and plugging the mains back in again.
OTOH, more ram never hurts :)
Best ask OCuk about their returns policy. If bought as a matched pair, should want to replace as a matched pair and that may be easier if they ship you another set.

I reseated them, as well as change the slots. Still happened. So I went onto removing one and found out which one it is.
Have contacted OCUK about this, and we shall see what they say. Its been a long day.
