New gaming mouse. Lachesis, G9, Habu or Sidewinder?

Decisions, decisions. I'm not unhappy with my mx510, it has served me well and only some of the paint has come off the buttons. A few weeks ago I saw a preview of the new Razer mouse, the Lachesis here: [OC]ModShop - Razer Lachesis Gaming Mouse Hands-On and some stuff about the G9 and the Sidewinder. This made me want one, as the dpi on my mx510 is considerably less. Now the new razer is out I belive, so it's decision time, that or something else from the array of great new pinting devices? Which is going to help my aim in UT3 and TF2 the most?

The other thing about mice on my mind is: Mouse acceleration in games or no? I've been using mouse acceleration in and out of games since I got my first logitech 3 button pilot mouse iirc for wolfenstein 3d and discovered the mouse accelration there could really help as ball mice have limited tracking speed and so does the human arm. I've used it ever since and that's a few years now. However I've started thinking maybe my aim would be better without and I've disabled it in game and out to relearn mousing maybe to learn better if I get a new mouse, few weeks later I'm not sure if I'm used to linear mose response or if my aim is better tbh.

Also what mat to go with the new mouse. I might stick with my Qpad low sense for the time being as it's fine.

I wasnt sure if this belonged in the gaming section, but it is about hardware, so here it is!

Anyhow enough of my prattle, hit me with advice!

I've picked the habu, but only because it's the only one I've used, and I like it, though now I use a logitech mx518.

I think using the mouse acceleration in games would, with a laser mouse, input too much jitter, and throw off your aim.

The mat, if you're happy with it, keep it, you can always get one of the icemat or steelpad series later on.

Sorry can't be too much help.

I've always prefured the shape of the logitechs to the razors
Although I don't like the shape of the g9 it seems to be a step backwards. :/

If you liked the feel and shape of the mx510 I'd consider the Logitech g5 which is basically the laser version with added speed indicator light.

The shape of the logitechs is the exact reason Ive dumped my MX518 and gone to a Deathadder (although its got to be RMA'ed to Scan due to a faulty mouse wheel )

The only thing with the Deathadder is that the mouse has 2 textures on it. The top main part is a nice rubbery feel that gives excellent grip. The bottom part (where the two side buttons are) is a mirror plastic finish, meaning your fingers slip a lot (Its like that mirror like black plastic on the edge of Samsung LCD TV's) - its very annoying.

It looks like the Lachesis has a different texture for the bottom part too, but it looks less of a mirror finish. I'm going to email them and ask.

Re: New gaming mouse. Lachesis, G9, Habu or Sidewinder?

With my Razer Copperhead I have no problems, though as Agent says the shiny surface with the side buttons can be a bit slippy but as it happen my thumb just happens to rest in exactly the right place for it not to be an issue. That and I use a "claw" grip on my mouse, so control with my fingers (rather than resting my palm on the mouse and using my wrist/arm to move it) while my weight rests on my wrist rest maybe that helps!

My only and final thought on the matter is that all input devices are individual and what one person finds comfortable another may find awkward/painful so my best advice would be to go to a real shop (you know one of those places with walls and things you can buy!) and try out the mice you think you might like. That can be the only way in which you can truly decide which mouse to go for, our opinions can only provide what we find comfortable, like and dislike but its your opinion that really matters!.

The shape of the G9 doesnt look that comfy to me as well, which is partly why I'm looking at the new razor. A big part of it is the much higher dpi, which the G5 doesnt have, even the new G9 has a slightly lower dpi than the lachesis.

Re: New gaming mouse. Lachesis, G9, Habu or Sidewinder?

lol do you even think in your wildest dreams your going to notice the difference in a few dpi....

Rumour has it the mx 518 is the best gaming mouse ever made hardware wise ( shapes is down to opinion) and it has 1600 dpi.....

There are pro gamers out there that use 5 pound mice and will be able to play an fps game better than you and I ever could..

    Dont be caught by marketing..

I have used logi all the time, I went from a G7 to a G5 and if you have the correct surface you cant get a better mouse in my mind..

Yeh thats part of the reason I didnt like the other shapes as I also have large hands.

And logitech customer service is up there with the best imo.

I have about 3 sets of spare mouse pads for the g5 waiting for when they wear out... and they are all free......

Re: New gaming mouse. Lachesis, G9, Habu or Sidewinder?

I've always liked logitech mice and you're right about their customer service. The one time I needed logitech customer service is when I broke one of the speakers of my Z5500, totally my fault and they sent me a replacement free of charge really quickly.

About the size of the mouse, I find my mx510 too small really, when I grip it only my fingertips touch it, my palm is nowhere near, so a small mouse might not be so bad. From the pictures the lachesis looks like at might be bigger like maybe the size of the boomslang, but really I have no idea. As for trying out in a shop the only place really would be PC world and they might never get the lachesis tbh.
